PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Richard John Salvacion (ranked 23825 p4p, 24015 weight class) and Gakus Amiga (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 34 - 51 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Richard John Salvacion!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 32 - 49 - 3, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gakus Amiga!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Tiny Johnson and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Salvacion doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Amiga counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Salvacion is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Salvacion shoots in for a takedown but Amiga shows good takedown defense.

Salvacion shoots in and bounces Amiga off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Amiga throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

Salvacion preventing the sweep.
Salvacion is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Amiga pulls Salvacion in close to his closed guard and prevents Salvacion from doing any damage or advancing position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Salvacion sitting in guard here, content to control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Amiga closes this distance looking for a takedown but Salvacion circles away.
Salvacion is looking to counter with a body kick.
Salvacion shoots in looking for a takedown but Amiga manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Salvacion's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Amiga steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Richard John Salvacion. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Salvacion.
Amiga is clearly looking to counter with head kicks.

Salvacion closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Salvacion is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Amiga's shoulder. That is not cool.
Amiga is trying to control Salvacion's posture but Salvacion avoids it.
Salvacion wants to lay and pray for a moment but Amiga keeps working.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Amiga is being controlled here.
Amiga is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Salvacion's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Amiga has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Salvacion is working away from the top position though.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Amiga is looking for a sweep. Salvacion is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Amiga shoots in for a takedown but Salvacion shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Amiga defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Salvacion.
Amiga appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.

Amiga shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Amiga is working for a kimura but Salvacion is defending it quite comfortably.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Salvacion is positioning himself well to prevent Amiga advancing to mount.

Salvacion works his way to full guard. Good work.
Salvacion is pulling down on Amiga's head. It's preventing any offense from Amiga, at least for the moment.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Salvacion is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Amiga being controlled here momentarily.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Salvacion shoots in for a double leg but Amiga sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Amiga steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Salvacion darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Salvacion is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Amiga tries to hold on but Salvacion postures up.

Amiga tries to reverse the position but Salvacion maintains control.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Richard John Salvacion dominated that second round.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Salvacion closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Amiga quickly recovers to half guard.
Amiga is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Salvacion's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Salvacion's back!
Amiga lands strikes to the head.
Amiga is hanging on to Salvacion's back as he tries to escape.
Salvacion trying to control the hands but Amiga won't let him.

Amiga controls the position.

Amiga is continuing to stall.
Amiga gets his hands free as Salvacion looks to control.
Amiga controlling the position well here. Salvacion rolled but Amiga kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Let's hope that Amiga has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Salvacion rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Salvacion trying to control but Amiga postures up.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Amiga keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Salvacion steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Amiga. That one must have hurt.
Gakus Amiga has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Richard John Salvacion is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Amiga looks for a takedown but Salvacion sprawls well.
And Salvacion counters with a quick kick to the body but Amiga blocks it.

And that's the end of the fight!
Gakus Amiga comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Salvacion has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
