PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Higanti Libat (ranked 23655 p4p, 23894 weight class) and Wala Sapi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 32 - 49 - 4, fighting out of Las Vegas, Higanti Libat!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 38 - 40 - 8, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wala Sapi!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Frank Dennis and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Sapi defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Libat.
Libat misses with a takedown
and Sapi makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Libat really felt that one!
Libat shoots in looking for a takedown but Sapi manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Libat's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Higanti Libat. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Libat throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Sapi's waist but Sapi gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Libat off to one side.

Libat shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Sapi is trying to maintain the position but Libat is very close to passing his half guard.
Sapi preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Sapi on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Sapi is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sapi trying to control but Libat postures up.
Libat perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Libat is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Sapi.

Libat is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Libat is trying to escape the position but Sapi is controlling the position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Libat controls the position for a moment.
Sapi tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Wala Sapi dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Libat gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Sapi counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Sapi.
Sapi seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Libat lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Sapi avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Libat lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Sapi can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Libat controls the pace.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Sapi is controlling Libat's posture.
Wala Sapi has got the better of the ground game so far.
Libat seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Sapi closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Libat's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Libat pulls Sapi in to control the position.
Sapi sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Libat's guard.
Sapi blocks the strikes from Libat.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Wala Sapi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Libat's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Sapi shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Libat as he avoids it easily.
Libat quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.

Sapi feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Libat is pulling down on Sapi's head. It's preventing any offense from Sapi, at least for the moment.

Libat wants to hit a sweep here but Sapi passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Libat there!
Sapi tries to push Libat's head away but Libat is holding on tight.
Sapi thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

Libat tries to lock up and control but Sapi gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Libat working to try and regain half guard.

Sapi sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Sapi landing strikes from the mount and Libat is in trouble!
Libat tries to reverse the position but Sapi maintains control.
Sapi controlling the position easily from mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Libat tries to hold on but Sapi postures up.
Higanti Libat has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Wala Sapi is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

And that's the end of the fight!
Wala Sapi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Sapi has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
