PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Brendon Carrillo-Moreno (ranked 1650 p4p, 2227 weight class) and Tempe Gorge (ranked 122 p4p, 166 weight class). Gorge has chosen For Heavy Metal we will die! as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 13 - 0, fighting out of London, Brendon Carrillo-Moreno!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 21 - 3, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tempe Gorge!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Percy O'Donnell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carrillo-Moreno throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Gorge cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Carrillo-Moreno looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Gorge scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Gorge throws a head kick but Carrillo-Moreno moves out of range.
Carrillo-Moreno tries to land a front kick but Gorge steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Carrillo-Moreno avoids the head kick by Gorge.
Carrillo-Moreno fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Gorge finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

Gorge instigates a clinch.
Gorge is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
Carrillo-Moreno is trying to drag Gorge to the mat but Gorge just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Carrillo-Moreno tries to score a body lock takedown but Gorge shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brendon Carrillo-Moreno. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Gorge breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Carrillo-Moreno pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

Carrillo-Moreno is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Gorge.
Gorge looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Carrillo-Moreno is defended easily by Gorge.
Carrillo-Moreno misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Gorge tries to sprawl but Carrillo-Moreno drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Gorge wants to control but Carrillo-Moreno is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Gorge really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Carrillo-Moreno. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Carrillo-Moreno is pressing down on Gorge's thigh, looking to free his foot. Gorge is holding on for now.

Carrillo-Moreno is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Gorge is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Carrillo-Moreno pulls his head out easily.

Gorge tries to roll over but Carrillo-Moreno keeps him under control.

Carrillo-Moreno is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Gorge doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Carrillo-Moreno.
Gorge is trying to control but can't.
Gorge wants to get back to full guard.
Gorge trying to hold on to Carrillo-Moreno's head to control him but Carrillo-Moreno postures up.
Carrillo-Moreno moves into full mount! Gorge won't be happy about that!

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Carrillo-Moreno sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Carrillo-Moreno has hold of Gorge's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Gorge manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Carrillo-Moreno tries to control but Gorge wriggling away.
Gorge keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Carrillo-Moreno looking to control but Gorge is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Carrillo-Moreno controlling from the full mount.
Carrillo-Moreno trying to control but Gorge is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Carrillo-Moreno looking for a guillotine from mount but Gorge is having none of it.
Gorge slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Carrillo-Moreno takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Carrillo-Moreno works his way into side control.

Carrillo-Moreno wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Gorge, who protects the arm well.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Tempe Gorge will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Carrillo-Moreno slips under a jab.
Gorge shoots for a takedown but Carrillo-Moreno saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Carrillo-Moreno changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Gorge scores with a jab.

Gorge gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Gorge wants to get back to his feet but Carrillo-Moreno passes into half guard.

Gorge is looking to control Carrillo-Moreno's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Gorge avoid being mounted?

Carrillo-Moreno is looking for a kimura but Gorge is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Carrillo-Moreno to get the leverage.
Brendon Carrillo-Moreno overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Gorge is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gorge can do anything to dispel that myth.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gorge has a hand on Carrillo-Moreno's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Carrillo-Moreno takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gorge wants to get back to his feet.

Carrillo-Moreno is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Gorge to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Gorge shrugs it off.
Carrillo-Moreno controlling the pace for now.
Gorge tries to hold on but Carrillo-Moreno postures up.
Carrillo-Moreno wants to control the pace but Gorge is squirming around nicely.
Gorge is looking to improve his position but Carrillo-Moreno isn't that keen on the idea.

Carrillo-Moreno is really struggling to control Gorge but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Carrillo-Moreno is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Gorge can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Gorge wants to control but Carrillo-Moreno is having none of it.

Carrillo-Moreno has isolated one of Gorge's arms. Gorge looking to fight him off but Carrillo-Moreno twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!
