Hopson fails to land with a series of punches.
No luck for Sadaval with that takedown attempt. Sadaval defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Hopson. Sadaval dives in and scores a takedown into Hopson's guard. Sadaval makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Sadaval working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well. Hopson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Hopson throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Sadaval is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Sadaval looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Hopson looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Sadaval puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sadaval working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Sadaval is taking a breather. Hopson says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Sadaval lands a nice short elbow. Sadaval passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Hopson! Sadaval has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Sadaval has his opponent pinned against the ropes, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Hopson's face.
Hopson is rocked!
It looks like Jacob Hopson has been cut. Hopson definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Sadaval controlling from the full mount. Sadaval connects with a bit shot that sees Hopson covering up! More strikes from Sadaval and the referee jumps in to stop the fight! Sadaval is our winner by TKO!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Horacio Sadaval! In his post fight interview, Horacio Sadaval started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
