PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mawunyo Kato (ranked 4623 p4p, 25155 weight class) and Kendrick Sosa (ranked 428 p4p, 529 weight class). Sosa has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Mawunyo Kato!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Kendrick Sosa!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Paul Aken and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sosa clinches up with Kato and pushes him back against the cage.
Kato could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Kato pulls Sosa into guard.

Kato looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Sosa passes into side control.
Kato sneaks back into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are battling for position here. Kato manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kato is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Sosa is aware though and is defending well.
Sosa seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.

Kato looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Sosa has picked Kato up and slammed him! Kato can't keep hold of the triangle and Sosa manages to pass to side control!

Kato is doing well to control the position and prevent Sosa from advancing to side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That was a close round but I would say that Mawunyo Kato will probably get the nod.

Sosa fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Kato, pushing him back against the cage.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The referee asks Sosa politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Sosa prefers to stall for the moment though.
Kato is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Kato is looking for a sweep. Sosa is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Kato is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Sosa jumps into side control!

You can see the frustration on Kato's face as Sosa controls the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Sosa gets tackled into the cage by Kato. Kato maintains the clinch.

Kato is looking for a triangle here but Sosa uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Let's hope that Sosa has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Sosa is continuing to stall.
Kato manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sosa is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

That was a close second round but I would say that Mawunyo Kato will probably get the nod.

Sosa got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kato has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Sosa has managed to get both his arms back between Kato's legs - danger averted.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Sosa controlling his opponent.
Kato sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Sosa takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Kato is looking to get back to full guard here but Sosa has managed to pass to side control instead.
Kato is looking for a sweep.
Sosa throws an elbow but Kato slips to the side and avoids it well.
Kato tries to bench press Sosa off him but Sosa keeps the position.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Mawunyo Kato is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Kendrick Sosa comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Kato has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
