PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Eli Dukes (ranked 5107 p4p, 4906 weight class) and Mick McMick (ranked 526 p4p, 514 weight class). The key to victory for Eli Dukes has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Eli Dukes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mick McMick!
The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dukes closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McMick is looking for a sweep. Dukes is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Dukes passes to full mount!
Dukes prevents McMick from getting the reversal.
McMick is squirming around, avoiding Dukes's attempts to control the action.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Dukes moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, McMick has worked his arm free - good work by McMick!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Dukes is trying to get an arm triangle but McMick is defending well.

Dukes wants to lay and pray for a moment but McMick keeps working.
Dukes postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Dukes is putting a hurting on McMick here, landing some big shots from side control.

Dukes tries for a kimura but McMick is defending well.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
McMick showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Dukes.

McMick has closed the distance and engaged Dukes in a clinch.

Dukes successfully pulls guard.
McMick must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
McMick makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Dukes is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
McMick stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Dukes swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Dukes escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. McMick gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

and McMick counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by McMick.

Dukes is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and McMick defends well.
McMick stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Dukes swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Dukes is trying to control the position but McMick postures up.

Dukes is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

McMick postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Dukes is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of McMick, into his guard.

Dukes wants to control from the top but McMick keeps moving.
McMick lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Dukes is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Dukes thows a huge punch but McMick dodges it nicely.

Eli Dukes overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

McMick regains full guard. Nicely done.
McMick manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Dukes manages to get himself to full guard.

Dukes is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and McMick defends well.
McMick forces his way into half guard.
McMick wants to free his trapped foot but Dukes is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Dukes moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

McMick wants to control from the top but Dukes keeps moving.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Dukes has his foot on McMick's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. McMick works his way back into a safe position though.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Mick McMick will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Dukes displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from McMick.
McMick blocks a head kick by Dukes.
Dukes is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that McMick can do to turn this around?
McMick tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Dukes darts in looking for a takedown but McMick gets double underhooks and turns Dukes into the cage.
Dukes wants to break free but McMick has control.
Dukes has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by McMick after a bit of a struggle.
McMick has Dukes pressed against the cage, preventing Dukes from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

McMick ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. McMick no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dukes trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Dukes throwing strikes from guard but McMick blocks nicely.
Dukes throws a strike but McMick rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Dukes has momentary wrist control but McMick slips an elbow through the middle.

McMick lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Dukes down.

McMick is trying to get an arm triangle but Dukes is defending well.
McMick really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Dukes. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Dukes wants to control but McMick postures up.
Dukes manages to get back to half guard.
Dukes looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

McMick decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

McMick looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Dukes lands a high kick!
Eli Dukes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Dukes is looking to clinch.
McMick shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Dukes pinned against the cage. Dukes gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Dukes throws a counter high kick but McMick was just alert enough to avoid it.
McMick shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Dukes as he avoids it easily.
Eli Dukes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mick McMick.
Dukes scores with the left hand. McMick knows he should have avoided that one.
McMick tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
McMick takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Dukes lands a lovely overhand right.
Dukes displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from McMick.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Dukes misses with a few strikes there.
McMick feints a counter leg kick.
McMick shoots in and drives through. Dukes sprawls well.
McMick will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Dukes throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
This has been an exciting period of action!

and McMick counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Dukes!
Dukes is trying to improve his position.
McMick advances nicely into full mount.
Dukes is in all sorts of trouble here.
Dukes tries to lock up and control but McMick gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Eli Dukes.
I think Dukes has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
