PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jesus Christ (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Antonio Fionte (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jesus Christ!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 1, fighting out of London, Antonio Fionte!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Andrew Berry and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Christ tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Fionte was well out of range. Poor timing from Christ.
Christ throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Fionte keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Christ slips a jab and a cross from Fionte.
Christ misses with a head kick.
Christ shoots in but Fionte avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Fionte tries to close the distance and clinch up but Christ swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Christ tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Fionte swivels and escapes.

Christ avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Christ shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Christ was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Fionte's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Christ seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Fionte for as long as he can get away with.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Christ throws a strike aimed at the side of Fionte's head but Fionte avoids it well.
Fionte pushes Christ away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Christ gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
The referee asks Christ politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Christ prefers to stall for the moment though.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Christ moves forwards but Fionte connects with a nice, crisp jab.

Jesus Christ seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Christ closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Christ lands in his opponent's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jesus Christ will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Fionte manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Christ changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Fionte tries to avoid it but Christ manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Fionte to the ground. Fionte escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
