Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Yoji Anjo Anjo (ranked 2499 p4p, 22712 weight class) and Willie Layer (ranked 287 p4p, 516 weight class). Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 34 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Yoji Anjo Anjo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Willie Layer!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Paul Aken and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Anjo manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Layer on his heels. He'll look to pass Layer's guard now, I'm sure.
Anjo pushing down on Layer's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Anjo is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Layer doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Anjo.
Still in half guard, Anjo seems content to control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Anjo has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Anjo looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Anjo escapes and gets back to his feet.

Anjo has closed the distance and engaged Layer in a clinch.

Anjo pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Anjo steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Layer.
Layer swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Layer throws a left and a right that both miss

so Anjo counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Anjo drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Anjo jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Anjo chips away with some ground and pound.

Anjo stands up from guard. Let's bang!
A swing and a miss from Layer.
Anjo fails to land the takedown.
Layer misses with a right hand

and Anjo counters with a shoot takedown. Layer fights it but they end up in guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Anjo slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Anjo definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Anjo throws a big elbow that misses.
Anjo throwing strikes but missing.
Anjo is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Layer is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Anjo is controlling him.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Anjo throwing strikes from guard but Layer blocks nicely.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Layer fails to land with a series of punches.
It looked like Anjo was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Anjo shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Layer counters with a series of strikes. Anjo will be more careful next time no doubt.
Layer blocks a low kick nicely.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Anjo shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Layer as he jumps to the side.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

A right hook to the body lands for Anjo.
Anjo blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

Anjo breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Layer preventing the sweep.
Layer throws an elbow that misses. Anjo uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Layer's guard. Nice move by Anjo!

Anjo gets to his feet. Layer looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Anjo slips under a jab.
Anjo throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Layer's waist but Layer gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Anjo off to one side.

Anjo closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Layer quickly recovers to half guard.
Layer pushes Anjo off but Anjo dives into side control.
Anjo wants to control but Layer is keeping him busy.
Layer managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Anjo.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Layer can do anything to dispel that myth.

Anjo stands up and beckons Layer to his feet.

Anjo bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Anjo appears to be looking for a big counter.
Layer throws a predictable looking body shot
and Anjo counters with a three punch combo that has Layer backing up. Layer nods at Anjo to acknowledge the strikes.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Layer ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Anjo moves away.
Layer throws the left hand but Anjo avoids the punch easily.
Layer misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Anjo closes the distance and clinches.
Layer fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Layer is trying to push Anjo away but Anjo has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Anjo has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Layer regains guard immediately.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Anjo gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Anjo darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Anjo moves into full mount! Layer won't be happy about that!

Anjo throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Layer because Anjo loaded up on that one.
Anjo controlling the pace for now.
Anjo thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Layer avoids a series of strikes thrown by Anjo.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Layer swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Anjo changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Layer misses with an uppercut.
Layer stuffs the takedown.
Anjo looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Layer is fending him off so far but Anjo persists. Nope, Layer circles away and we're back to standing.

Anjo closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Layer to the mat! Layer manages to get full guard.
Anjo advances to half guard.

Anjo is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Layer!

Layer wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Anjo.
Anjo content just to control the position here.

Anjo gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Anjo connects with a jab.
Anjo shoots in for a double leg but Layer sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Yoji Anjo Anjo. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Anjo tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Anjo takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Layer throws a body punch but Anjo moves out of range.
Anjo appears to be looking for a big counter.

and Layer counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Anjo throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Layer's waist but Layer gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Anjo off to one side.

Layer throws a series of punches but Anjo avoids them all with ease.
Anjo is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Layer.
Yoji Anjo Anjo is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Willie Layer has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Anjo.
Anjo tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Layer swivels and escapes.

Anjo looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Layer!
Anjo is looking to take a break and control but Layer is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Willie Layer.
I think Anjo has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
