PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Funaki Fujiwara (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sam Maniche (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Fujiwara might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to T.N.T. by Tonedeff. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Funaki Fujiwara!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Sam Maniche!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Hugh Johnson and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fujiwara looks for a takedown but Maniche sprawls well.

Maniche shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Maniche was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Maniche working for a guillotine from mount but Fujiwara is in no mood to give up.

Maniche is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Fujiwara can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Maniche decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Fujiwara shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Maniche manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Fujiwara thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Fujiwara lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Maniche circles away quickly and effectively.

Maniche shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Maniche showed some decent athleticism there.

Maniche wants to lay and pray for a moment but Fujiwara keeps working.

Fujiwara has one foot on Maniche's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Fujiwara is breathing heavily.

Maniche looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Fujiwara!

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Maniche cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Fujiwara tries to reverse the position but Maniche maintains control.

Maniche is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Fujiwara has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Maniche has control of Fujiwara's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Fujiwara regains control of the situation pretty easily.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Maniche cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Fujiwara is bucking up trying to escape but Maniche cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Fujiwara is trying to escape the mount.
Maniche fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Fujiwara tries to reverse the position but Maniche maintains control.
Fujiwara wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Fujiwara grimaces as he takes a shot to the body.
Maniche connects with a series of strikes and the referee is calling for Fujiwara to escape the position.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Fujiwara gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Maniche counters with a shoot takedown. Fujiwara fights it but they end up in guard.

Fujiwara has momentary wrist control but Maniche slips an elbow through the middle.

Maniche wants to control from the top but Fujiwara keeps moving.
Fujiwara is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Maniche drops back looking for a leg! Fujiwara is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Fujiwara manages to kick Maniche off! Maniche jumps back into Fujiwara's guard.
Maniche wants to get up but he can't break Fujiwara's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Maniche wants to break free but Fujiwara has control.

Maniche will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

and Maniche counters with a nice uppercut.

The fight stays on the outside here - Maniche looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Maniche uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Fujiwara.

Maniche clinches up with Fujiwara and pushes him back against the cage.

Maniche breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Maniche uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Fujiwara.

Funaki Fujiwara is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Maniche feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Fujiwara is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Maniche's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Maniche's back!

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Maniche lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Funaki Fujiwara seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Maniche lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Fujiwara avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Maniche closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Maniche lands in his opponent's guard.

Maniche got a little sloppy there for a moment and Fujiwara has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Maniche has managed to get both his arms back between Fujiwara's legs - danger averted.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Maniche connects with a nice short shot to Fujiwara's temple.
Funaki Fujiwara has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well Maniche has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
