This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Tokyo, with a TWGC record of 4 wins and 2 losses; Kawainui Perry! And in the blue corner, fighting out of St Petersburg, with a TWGC record of 1 wins and 6 losses; Gunner Mason!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Stewart Dunkirk and Wesley Smith.


The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Perry is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Perry tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in to close the distance. Mason manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Mason has managed to clinch.
Perry changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Mason fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Perry drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Perry prevents the takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Perry has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Mason is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Perry drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Mason gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Perry tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Mason just stands there and leans against the ropes.

Perry goes for a takedown attempt but Mason pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Perry tries to close the distance and clinch but Mason swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Perry is trying to pull guard but Mason has him pressed against the ropes.

Mason might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Perry haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Mason controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Perry tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Mason looking to sit in guard and control but Perry gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Mason is trying to control the position but Perry postures up.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Mason looking to hit a scissor sweep but Perry is one step ahead there.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mason can do anything to dispel that myth.
Perry is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Perry continues to stall.

Perry has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Mason looking to control but Perry passes into half guard.
Mason is looking for a sweep. Perry is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Mason wants to sweep but Perry has passed to side control!

Perry has knee on belly and moves into mount.

Mason is looking to improve his position but Perry isn't that keen on the idea.

Mason can't escape the position.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Perry manages to capitalize on a mistake by Mason to take his back!

You can see the frustration on Mason's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Good control from Perry.
Mason rolls, trying to escape but Perry keeps control of the position.
Perry will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Mason wants to control his opponent's hands but Perry gets his hands free.
Perry just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Perry seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

Mason trying to control the action but Perry just sinks the hooks in.
I would not like to be Mason right now.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Mason can't escape the position.
Perry has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Mason's body.
You can see the frustration on Mason's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Perry keeps control of the position easily here as Mason tries to buck him off.
Mason rolls, trying to escape but Perry keeps control of the position.
Perry doesn't have the hooks in and Mason manages to turn into his guard.

Mason trying to control but Perry is working from the bottom.
Perry is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Mason trying to control the position from guard on top but Perry is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Mason not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Perry keeping moving, preventing Mason from controlling successfully.

Mason must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Perry holds on and takes a little breather.

Mason is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Perry works to advance to full mount. Mason defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Perry controlling the pace for now.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Mason is trying to reverse the position but instead Perry has taken his back - oops!

Mason is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Mason is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

And that's the end of the fight!
Perry takes the fight on points by 20 to 2.
