The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendoza lands a front kick.

McCarthy isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Mendoza stacks McCarthy on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Mendoza!

Mendoza manages to capitalize on a mistake by McCarthy to take his back!

McCarthy tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Mendoza really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

I really don't envy McCarthy right now.

Despite having McCarthy's back, Mendoza says stuff this ground business - let's go for a knockout! McCarthy seems baffled but is happy to be out of the difficult position!
McCarthy tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Mendoza paws at him with a jab and circles away.

That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! McCarthy crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Mendoza - the referee stops the clock and McCarthy gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Mendoza. McCarthy manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
