PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dawindi Buktot (ranked 23939 p4p, 23898 weight class) and Walay Buut (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Walay Buut told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 33 - 50 - 5, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dawindi Buktot!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 47 - 38 - 4, fighting out of Las Vegas, Walay Buut!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Daniel Franklin and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Buktot shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Buut manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Buktot drops back looking for a leg! Buut is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Buut manages to kick Buktot off! Buktot jumps back into Buut's guard.
Buktot wants to control from the top but Buut keeps moving.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Buut looking to control.
Buktot is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Buut closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Buktot did well to prevent Buut getting side control.

Buktot shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Buut's guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Buut is adopting a defensive guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Buut pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Buktot is keeping the position for now.

Buktot is pushing down on Buut's leg trying to pass to half guard. Buut is fighting to maintain full guard but Buktot has managed to sneak the leg through.

Walay Buut showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Buut shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Buut shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Buktot as he avoids it easily.
Buktot fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Buktot throws a half hearted mid kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Buut closes this distance looking for a takedown but Buktot circles away.
Buktot is looking to counter with a body kick.
Dawindi Buktot has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Walay Buut.

Buut changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Buktot tries to avoid it but Buut manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Buktot to the ground. Buktot escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Buut darts in looking for a takedown but Buktot gets double underhooks and turns Buut into the cage.
Buut fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Buktot thinks about countering with a body kick.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Buktot.
Buut will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
A head kick by Buktot misses

and Buut counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Buktot is looking for a sweep. Buut is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Buut throws a strike but Buktot avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Buktot seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Buut stops Buktot from standing up.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.
Dawindi Buktot overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Buut is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
No luck for Buut with that takedown attempt.
Buktot quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.
Buktot tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Buut swivels and escapes.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Well Buktot has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
