Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Rob Roy (ranked 831 p4p, 856 weight class) and Tom Korppila (ranked 66 p4p, 71 weight class). Korppila has chosen Mustasch - The Mauler as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Rob Roy had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 43 - 22 - 1, fighting out of New York, Rob Roy! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 15 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Tom Korppila! The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Jeff Smith and Roger Salmon.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Roy misses with a hook. Korppila ducked under it nicely. Korppila throws out a counter right but Roy avoids it with no problem. Tom Korppila seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Roy wants to slow Korppila down by chopping away at his legs. Roy defending well as Korppila loads up on a big left hand. Korppila shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Roy but Roy pushes him off and we're back to square one. As Korppila backs away, Roy returns fire with a leg kick that just misses. Korppila throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Roy's waist but Roy gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Korppila off to one side. Roy stuffs the takedown attempt from Korppila. Korppila gets slowly back to his feet. Rob Roy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tom Korppila. Korppila shoots and misses letting Roy counter with a right hand. Roy slaps away a takedown attempt from Korppila, before circling back to the center of the mat. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Korppila shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Roy as he jumps to the side. Korppila fails miserably with a takedown attempt. A counter left hand to the body from Roy misses its target.
That's one minute gone in the round. Korppila scores with the left hand. Roy knows he should have avoided that one. Roy misses with an uppercut
and Korppila counters with a three punch combo that has Roy backing up. Roy nods at Korppila to acknowledge the strikes. Korppila tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Roy swivels and escapes. Korppila looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Roy is fending him off so far but Korppila persists. Nope, Roy circles away and we're back to standing. The fighters circling - Korppila throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Korppila moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body. Both fighters circling a little - Roy finishes the exchange with a kick to the body. Korppila looks winded! Korppila lands a glancing blow to the side of Roy's head. Korppila drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Korppila wants to pass the guard but Roy is keeping the position. Roy looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Roy seems keen to control Korppila's posture. Roy utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Korppila wants to control from the top but Roy keeps moving. Roy can't keep his opponent in guard - Korppila advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Roy holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Korppila perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Korppila is working for a kimura but Roy is defending it quite comfortably.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Roy blocking the ground and pound. Korppila is working for a guillotine from mount but Roy frees his head quite easily.
Roy knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Korppila on the ground. Korppila misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Korppila goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Roy turns into him and now he's in Korppila's guard.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Tom Korppila dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Korppila is trying hard to land a takedown here. Roy sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Roy throwing a counter right hand but Korppila manages to avoid it. Roy scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Korppila doesn't seem bothered though. Korppila shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Korppila takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Korppila drops his hands momentarily and Roy takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Roy was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger. Korppila is still on wobbly legs! Can Roy finish him? Roy throws an overhand right that lands on Korppila's shoulder, as Korppila tries to avoid the shot. Roy defending well as Korppila loads up on a big left hand. Korppila seems to have recovered his senses. Rob Roy is winning the standup battle so far. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Korppila looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Roy! Roy tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Korppila wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Roy on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Roy tries to get out of the position. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Korppila wants to lay and pray for a moment but Roy keeps working.

Roy keeps Korppila under control for a moment. Korppila looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Roy managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Korppila.
Tom Korppila has got the better of the ground game so far. Korppila throwing shots but missing, from side control. Korppila throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Korppila sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Roy is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Korppila has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Korppila is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Roy knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Korppila looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Roy knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Korppila is working Roy over with some ground and pound from side control. Korppila is looking to take a break and control but Roy is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Roy takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

Korppila goes for a double leg but Roy avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Roy continues to drive forward. Korppila misses with a low kick. Korppila misses with a takedown attempt and Roy connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Roy looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Rob Roy has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Tom Korppila is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Roy defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Korppila. Korppila shoots in and bounces Roy off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Roy keeping full guard, as Korppila tries to pass. Roy preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Korppila postures up in Roy's guard and throws a big left but Roy blocks it. Roy keeping moving, preventing Korppila from controlling successfully. Korppila stays in close to Roy's body and controls the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Korppila wants to pass the guard but Roy is keeping the position. Korppila is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. Korppila has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Sloppy strikes from Roy. Those never looked like landing. A cross from Korppila lands. Korppila throws a body punch but Roy moves out of range. Korppila shoots and misses and as Korppila loses concentration momentarily, Roy counters with a picture perfect head kick! Korppila goes down, out cold! The referee rushed in to check on his condition - I'm sure he'll be ok but that was a massive knockout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Rob Roy! Our winner, Rob Roy, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans. Tom Korppila spoke after the fight, saying 'Well didn’t that suck? He may have beaten me, but could he outwrestle a bear? I don’t think so.'.
