PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jayzle Hailcrane (ranked 4319 p4p, 4193 weight class) and Rich Shappens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jayzle Hailcrane!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rich Shappens!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Anthony Taglia and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shappens looks to land a combination but Hailcrane avoids it well.
Shappens takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Shappens bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Hailcrane's head.
Hailcrane shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Shappens pinned against the cage. Shappens gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Shappens closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Shappens lands in his opponent's guard.

Hailcrane wriggles free and stands up.
Shappens just misses with a punch to the body.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Hailcrane clinches up against the cage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Shappens doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Hailcrane goes for a takedown attempt but Shappens pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
No luck for Hailcrane with that takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jayzle Hailcrane. That's going to take a lot out of him.
An inside leg kick from Hailcrane misses.
Hailcrane fails with a takedown attempt.

Shappens takes the fight into the clinch.
Hailcrane wants a takedown but no success here.
A frustrated look appears on Shappens's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Shappens jumps guard but Hailcrane turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Hailcrane drops down looking for an ankle pick but Shappens pulls his leg out and moves away.

Shappens throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Hailcrane tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Shappens is in Hailcrane's guard.

Hailcrane manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Shappens is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Hailcrane's half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hailcrane tries to kick Shappens off but Shappens keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Shappens is just content to waste time from the top position. Hailcrane takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Hailcrane is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Shappens is looking to advance position but Hailcrane has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shappens is squirming around, avoiding Hailcrane's attempts to control the action.
Shappens tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Hailcrane can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Shappens is looking to escape.

Hailcrane working for a submission but Shappens is keeping him at bay.

Hailcrane controlling the position easily from mount.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Shappens can do anything to dispel that myth.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Shappens is working to get back to half guard.
Shappens is just holding on here. Hailcrane manages to take his back.
Shappens wants to get back to his feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Shappens scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Hailcrane throws Shappens to one side and escapes!
Hailcrane shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Shappens as he jumps to the side.
Shappens slaps away a takedown attempt from Hailcrane, before circling back to the center of the mat.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Hailcrane.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jayzle Hailcrane. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hailcrane shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Shappens defends it nicely.
Shappens circles away from the clinch attempt
and Shappens counters with a stiff right hand.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Hailcrane takes a shot right to the bread basket.

Shappens gets the takedown into side control.

Hailcrane explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Hailcrane shoots in but no luck this time.

Hailcrane gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Shappens drops back looking for a leg! Hailcrane is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Hailcrane manages to kick Shappens off! Shappens jumps back into Hailcrane's guard.
Shappens working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

Shappens trying to control the position from guard on top but Hailcrane is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hailcrane has a closed guard, preventing Shappens from standing up.
Hailcrane trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

Hailcrane has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Shappens can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Shappens pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Hailcrane is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Shappens.
Shappens wants to clinch up but Hailcrane keeps it at a distance.

Shappens scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Hailcrane kicks off Shappens and gets to his feet.
Shappens is looking to score with low kicks.
Hailcrane throws a quick counter kick to the body but Shappens avoids it.
Shappens throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Shappens.

Hailcrane throws Shappens to one side and escapes!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Shappens tries to clinch there but Hailcrane circles away.

Hailcrane has Shappens pressed against the cage, preventing Shappens from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Shappens is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Shappens taking a breather.
Shappens tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Hailcrane just stands there and leans against the cage.
Shappens has Hailcrane pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Hailcrane manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Shappens is trying to pull guard but Hailcrane turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Shappens wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Hailcrane has him pressed against the cage.
Shappens can't break the clinch.
Shappens wants to take the fight to the mat but Hailcrane manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Hailcrane is looking for a takedown.
Shappens is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Hailcrane pulls him back up using the underhooks.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Hailcrane swings for the body but Shappens moves out of range.

Hailcrane gets a clinch.
Shappens wants a takedown.
Hailcrane misses with a hook from the clinch.
Hailcrane is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Shappens is defending well.
Hailcrane is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Shappens can do to turn this around?
Shappens fails to pull guard.
Shappens tries to score a body lock takedown but Hailcrane shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Jayzle Hailcrane has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rich Shappens.

Hailcrane breaks the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shappens lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Shappens.
Hailcrane throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Shappens's waist but Shappens gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hailcrane off to one side.

and Shappens counters with a nice uppercut.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Shappens looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Hailcrane seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.

Hailcrane closes the distance but Shappens moves to the side
and Hailcrane takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Shappens shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hailcrane as he jumps to the side.

Shappens shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Hailcrane's guard.

Hailcrane kicks Shappens off and gets to his feet.
Jayzle Hailcrane is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Shappens paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Hailcrane changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Shappens tries to avoid it but Hailcrane manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Shappens to the ground. Shappens escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Shappens closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Hailcrane quickly recovers to half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Hailcrane keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Hailcrane tries to roll over but Shappens keeps him under control.
Shappens throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Shappens thows a huge punch but Hailcrane dodges it nicely.
Hailcrane is not content to let Shappens control the position.
Shappens tries to stand and escape but Hailcrane is controlling the position.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Hailcrane is refusing to be controlled, as Shappens sits in half guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Hailcrane misses with a takedown attempt
and Shappens counters with a stiff right hand.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hailcrane tries to clinch up but Shappens circles away and keeps his distance.
Shappens misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Shappens shoots in and bounces Hailcrane off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Hailcrane is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Shappens is aware though and is defending well.
Shappens wants to control from the top but Hailcrane keeps moving.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Shappens misses with an attempted mid kick.

Shappens fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Hailcrane to the ground. Shappens is now in Hailcrane's guard.

Hailcrane is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Shappens wants to pass the guard but Hailcrane is keeping the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Rich Shappens comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Hailcrane has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
