Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tommy Rees! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Anderson Gracie! The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Eliza Hachem and Summer Carpenter.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rees changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Gracie looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Gracie is trying to get back to half guard. Rees decides to stand back up. Rees steps back and let's Gracie get back to his feet. Gracie bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Gracie is looking to take a break and control but Rees is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Rees tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Gracie wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Rees gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Gracie content to control rather than advance. Rees looking for submissions off his back. Rees gets full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gracie pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rees is keeping the position for now. Gracie works over Rees with some ground and pound from guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Rees looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gracie is one step ahead there. Rees manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Rees is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Gracie can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Rees working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Gracie looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Rees! Submission of the night perhaps?
