PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Yawa Kiang (ranked 23972 p4p, 23907 weight class) and Way Nada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). This should be a great matchup!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 31 - 57 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Yawa Kiang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 43 - 45 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Way Nada!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Alan Glass and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Nada shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kiang but Kiang pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Nada goes for a double leg but Kiang avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Kiang continues to drive forward.

Kiang feints and as Nada raises his hands in defense, Kiang changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kiang is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Kiang passes easily into side control. Nice work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nada is looking for a sweep.
Nada is trying to control Kiang's posture but Kiang avoids it.
A lull in the action here as Kiang stalls from top position.
Kiang seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Nada for as long as he can get away with.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Nada tries to bench press Kiang off him but Kiang keeps the position.
Kiang happy to just control the position for now.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Nada tries to buck Kiang off but Kiang is having none of it.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kiang is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Nada's shoulder. That is not cool.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Kiang.
Nada stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Nada wants it to stay on the feet.
Nada tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kiang sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Nada somewhat.
Yawa Kiang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Way Nada.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Kiang fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Nada is out of range.
Nada fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Kiang lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Nada scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Yawa Kiang dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Kiang shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Nada sprawls well. Nada wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Kiang gets slowly back to his feet.
Nada steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.

Nada gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Kiang to score an easy takedown into full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nada managing to control the position.
Nada's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Kiang trying to control the position from guard on top but Nada is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Nada managing to control the position.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Nada shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Kiang napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Nada content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Nada working away.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Yawa Kiang will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Kiang displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Nada.

Nada preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Kiang looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nada trying to control from the bottom.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Kiang thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Nada's head.
Nada controlling the position well.
Kiang with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nada shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kiang as he jumps to the side.
Yawa Kiang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Way Nada.
Nada blocks the body kick.
Kiang tries to score a power double leg takedown but Nada sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kiang somewhat.
Nada thinks about the counter body kick.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Nada shoots in for a takedown but Kiang shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Kiang thinks about countering with a body kick.

Nada shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Way Nada has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Yawa Kiang is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Nada seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Yawa Kiang showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Kiang has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
