PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Turner Trujillo (ranked 4077 p4p, 4090 weight class) and Randy Johns (ranked 241 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Turner Trujillo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Randy Johns!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Winston Alpacca and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Trujillo scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Johns throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.
Johns tries to buck Trujillo off but Trujillo is having none of it.
Johns is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Trujillo off and has taken his back!
You can see the frustration on Trujillo's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Johns looking for the choke but no joy.
Trujillo breaks Johns's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Trujillo throws a big elbow that misses.
Trujillo trying to control the position from guard on top but Johns is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Trujillo is really struggling to control Johns but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Trujillo will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Johns trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.

Johns has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Trujillo can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Johns can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Trujillo controls the pace.
Johns wants to sweep but no luck.
Trujillo wants to control from the top but Johns keeps moving.
Trujillo slips nicely into half guard.

Trujillo slows the pace down in half guard.
Johns wants to improve his position but Trujillo is controlling well.

Johns looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Johns gets a takedown into half guard.
Johns landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Johns tries to pass the half guard into mount. Trujillo knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Trujillo wants to control but Johns is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Johns is looking to advance position but Trujillo won't allow it.
Trujillo is looking to control Johns's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Trujillo avoid being mounted?
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Johns scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Trujillo is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Johns scores with a couple of nice shots.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Randy Johns will probably get the nod.

Johns manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Trujillo on his heels. He'll look to pass Trujillo's guard now, I'm sure.

Johns with a nice head shot there.
Trujillo can't keep his opponent in guard - Johns advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Johns lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Randy Johns has got the better of the ground game so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Johns stops Trujillo from getting back to his feet.
Johns lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Johns seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Nice strikes from Johns there.
Johns looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Trujillo with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Johns seems to be trying to get a kimura but instead Trujillo has recovered full guard.

Trujillo has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Johns should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Trujillo has tightened it up now! Johns should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
