Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Boris Brushnikov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Katsu Yamamoto! The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Illya Tyunina and Viktor Lagutenko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Yamamoto throws a head kick that misses. Yamamoto plants his feet and lands a nice head kick! Brushnikov shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Yamamoto sprawls well. Yamamoto wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Brushnikov gets slowly back to his feet. Brushnikov shoots for a double leg takedown but Yamamoto sprawls well. He's pushed Brushnikov's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Yamamoto misses with a hook. Brushnikov ducked under it nicely. Yamamoto fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Yamamoto with a nice cross. Yamamoto throws a lazy right hand but Brushnikov sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Brushnikov tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Yamamoto paws at him with a jab and circles away. Yamamoto ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Brushnikov moves away. Yamamoto throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Brushnikov avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Brushnikov scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Brushnikov trying to control the position but Yamamoto is working away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Brushnikov fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Yamamoto is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Brushnikov creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Yamamoto sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. Yamamoto is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Brushnikov asserts his dominance and retains side control. Brushnikov has hold of Yamamoto's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Yamamoto tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Brushnikov cranks the arm and Yamamoto screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Yamamoto, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:53 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Boris Brushnikov!
