PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Curtis Mason (ranked 4556 p4p, 4520 weight class) and Harry Brown (ranked 430 p4p, 424 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Curtis Mason!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Harry Brown!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Marco Blurström and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Brown gets caught flat footed, as Mason shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Mason trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Brown has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Mason is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
Brown tries to stall but Mason uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Mason throws a knee to the head but misses.
Brown tries to pull guard but Mason holds him up against the cage and eventually Brown drops back down to his feet.
Mason tries to land knees in the clinch but Brown avoids the damage to the body.
Brown tries to pull guard but Mason won't allow it.
Brown is trying to break the clinch but Mason has him pressed against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mason wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Brown has him pressed against the cage.
Mason dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.

Mason breaks from the clinch.
A left and a right from Brown both land. Nice combination.

A head kick from Brown lands but Mason takes it in his stride.
Brown throws a one two combo.
Brown fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Mason has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Brown fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Curtis Mason has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Harry Brown.

Mason shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Brown manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mason slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Mason is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Brown looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mason is one step ahead there.

Brown is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mason flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Brown tries to stand but can't do so whilst Mason controls his leg.
Mason desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Brown throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Brown wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mason keeps working.
Mason wants to control but Brown is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Mason controlling the position well.

Brown is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Mason doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Brown.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Mason actively working from the bottom here.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Mason controlling the position well.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Mason throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
The fight stays on the outside here - Brown looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
A thudding body kick lands there by Brown!
Brown shoots in but no luck this time.
Mason went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Mason has managed to clinch.
Mason tries a knee to the head but Brown blocks it.

Brown pulls Mason into guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Harry Brown dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Brown changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mason tries to avoid it but Brown manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mason to the ground. Mason escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Brown tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Mason swivels and escapes.

Brown gets tackled into the cage by Mason. Mason maintains the clinch.

Mason manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Mason lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Mason connects with a couple of short punches.
Mason showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Mason postures up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Brown looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Mason has picked Brown up and slammed him! Brown can't keep hold of the triangle and Mason manages to pass to side control!

Brown might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Mason haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Mason controls the position.
Brown looking for a sweep but Mason has passed into full mount! Oh no!

Mason goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Brown is on top in guard.

Brown wants to control from the top but Mason keeps moving.
Mason utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Mason is looking for a triangle but Brown pushes his legs off easily.

Brown got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mason has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Brown has managed to get both his arms back between Mason's legs - danger averted.
Mason wants to sweep here but Brown controlling him for the moment.
Mason pulls Brown in close to prevent any damage.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Brown trying to control but Mason is working from the bottom.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Mason gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Mason breaks the clinch.
Brown shoots in for a double leg but Mason sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Curtis Mason has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Harry Brown.
Mason stuffs the takedown attempt from Brown. Brown gets slowly back to his feet.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Mason passes Brown's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Brown keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Mason takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Brown is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Mason pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Mason has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Brown is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Mason pushes Brown off and gets back to his feet.

Mason rushes Brown and presses him up against the cage.
Mason is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Brown gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Brown loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Mason controlling the position.

Mason had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Brown defends it easily.
Brown wanted to stand there but Mason had control of the position.
Mason wants to stand but Brown is controlling the position.
Brown trying to control the position from guard on top but Mason is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Mason has control of Brown's left arm, preventing Brown from doing any damage.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Brown tries to keep at a distance but Mason has taken the fight into the clinch.
Brown goes for a takedown in the clinch but Mason prevents it.
Mason is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Brown can do to turn this around?

Mason tightens his grip and picks Brown up, before dumping him to the ground. Brown manages to land in guard.
Brown can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Mason controls the pace.
Mason's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
