Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 23 - 1, fighting out of London, Jake Askren!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Allan John Villanil!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, James Glass and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Askren lands with a nice combination. Villanil backs away looking to recover.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Villanil has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

We've been told by Askren's head coaches at Shut Up & Train! that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Villanil drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Askren manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Villanil is controlling Askren's position as best he can from this difficult position.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Villanil tries to roll over but Askren keeps him under control.

Villanil won't allow Askren to pass to mount.

Askren stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Villanil to get to his feet.

Askren keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Villanil enables Askren to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Villanil manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Askren drops back looking for a leg! Villanil is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Villanil manages to kick Askren off! Askren jumps back into Villanil's guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Villanil is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Askren works over Villanil's head and body with a nice combination.
Villanil closes the distance and clinches up with Askren, looking for a takedown. Villanil pushes Askren against the cage but Askren circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Jake Askren has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Allan John Villanil.

Askren throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Villanil was covering up waiting for the punch and Askren finishes the takedown easily into guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Villanil is looking for a triangle but Askren pushes his legs off easily.
Askren is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Villanil has his foot on Askren's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Askren works his way back into a safe position though.
Askren stays in close to Villanil's body and controls the position.

Villanil is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Askren has his hands clasped together but Villanil extends and breaks Askren's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Villanil.
