Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alexei Brovarnik (ranked 2473 p4p, 1143 weight class) and Everett Covington (ranked 283 p4p, 159 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Brovarnik might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Colours - DJ Mind X. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alexei Brovarnik!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Everett Covington!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Lou da Vinci and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Brovarnik has closed the distance and engaged Covington in a clinch.
Covington content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Brovarnik tries to pull guard but Covington forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Covington is trying to drag Brovarnik to the mat but Brovarnik just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Brovarnik lands a knee to the body.
Brovarnik connects with a knee to the head.
Brovarnik tries to land knees in the clinch but Covington avoids the damage to the body.

Covington is looking for a kimura but Brovarnik is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Covington to get the leverage.

Brovarnik is trying to maintain the position but Covington is very close to passing his half guard.

Covington is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Brovarnik sees it coming and defends easily.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Brovarnik is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Covington pulls his head out easily.
Covington drops an elbow to the side of Brovarnik's head.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Covington working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.
Covington lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Covington seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Covington drops an elbow to the side of Brovarnik's head.

Brovarnik is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Covington trying to pass the guard but Brovarnik defending well.

Covington wants to lay and pray for a moment but Brovarnik keeps working.

Brovarnik is looking for a sweep. Covington is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Covington is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Brovarnik tries to roll over but Covington keeps him under control.

Covington is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Brovarnik doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Covington.
Brovarnik is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Covington's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Covington's back!

Brovarnik is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Covington has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Covington can't escape the position.
Brovarnik is looking to control Covington but Covington is wriggling around and keeping busy.

Covington is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Brovarnik off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Everett Covington dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Covington feints and as Brovarnik raises his hands in defense, Covington changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Brovarnik can't keep his opponent in guard - Covington advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Brovarnik is pressing down on Covington's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Covington got a little sloppy there for a moment and Brovarnik has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Covington has managed to get both his arms back between Brovarnik's legs - danger averted.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Covington stands up over Brovarnik, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Covington must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Covington connects with a couple of short punches.

Brovarnik escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Covington gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Covington makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Covington working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Brovarnik's head.
Oh Brovarnik is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Brovarnik is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Covington connects with a nice short shot to Brovarnik's temple.

Covington lands a big elbow - Brovarnik is out of it! He's waving his arms around but his eyes are closed and he's not intelligently defending himself - the ref has no choice but to jump in and stop the fight! This one is in the books! A TKO win for Covington!

Our winner, Everett Covington, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
