Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Lorenzo Smashotti (ranked 3762 p4p, 4723 weight class) and Matthew Bandini (ranked 336 p4p, 397 weight class). Bandini has chosen Everybody as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Lorenzo Smashotti!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Matthew Bandini!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Ben Hemmingworth and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Bandini is defended easily by Smashotti.

Smashotti clinches.

Bandini manages to break the clinch.
Smashotti misses with a jab, cross combination.

Bandini fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Smashotti sprawls well initially but Bandini persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Bandini throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Smashotti is trying to stand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bandini slows the pace down in half guard.
Smashotti is looking to escape.
Smashotti is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Bandini scores with a couple of nice shots.

Bandini is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Smashotti sees it coming and defends easily.

Bandini is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Smashotti defends it well.

Smashotti definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Smashotti is looking to control Bandini's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Smashotti avoid being mounted?

Bandini landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Smashotti pushes Bandini off looking to stand but Bandini dives back in and keeps control.

Bandini is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Bandini is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Smashotti misses with some strikes from the bottom.

Smashotti has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Bandini is on him like a limpet, forcing Smashotti back against the ropes.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Bandini's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Smashotti throws an overhand right that lands on Bandini's shoulder, as Bandini tries to avoid the shot.
Smashotti tries to clinch but Bandini is having none of it.

Lorenzo Smashotti has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matthew Bandini.
Smashotti tries to close the distance and clinch up but Bandini swats him away and circles back towards the center.

No joy there for Smashotti, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Bandini shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Smashotti as he avoids it easily.

Bandini throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Smashotti tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Bandini is in Smashotti's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Bandini connects with a couple of short punches.
Smashotti is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Bandini is controlling him.
Smashotti knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bandini on the ground.
Smashotti trying to keep a closed guard but Bandini is proving a slippery customer.

Bandini is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Smashotti throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Bandini is in close to Smashotti's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Bandini lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Bandini keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Smashotti's head.
Smashotti wants to sweep here but Bandini controlling him for the moment.

Bandini thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Bandini passes Smashotti's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Smashotti wants to get back to his feet.
Bandini is stalling here. Smashotti is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Bandini seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Smashotti has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Bandini is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Smashotti's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Bandini is defending against the submission attempts here by Smashotti.
Smashotti is just content to waste time from the top position. Bandini takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Smashotti throwing strikes from guard but Bandini blocks nicely.
Smashotti tries to stand but Bandini is controlling from the bottom.

Bandini has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Bandini might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Smashotti haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Bandini escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Smashotti gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Smashotti is looking to stand up but Bandini won't let him.

Bandini manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Smashotti manages to get himself to full guard.

Bandini is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Smashotti bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Bandini's guard.


Bandini is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Smashotti is aware though and is defending well.
Smashotti is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Bandini tries to strike from the bottom.
Smashotti wants to stand and escape but instead Bandini has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Bandini is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Smashotti knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Smashotti is trying to stand and escape here. He's got onto all fours but that's just let Bandini take his back! Uh oh - Bandini has got a rear naked choke here! Smashotti is forced to tap! It's all over! One monent is all it takes in this sport!
