PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ultra Crush (ranked 4629 p4p, 4649 weight class) and Tristan Salazar (ranked 290 p4p, 295 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ultra Crush!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Tristan Salazar!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Johanna Lukiainen and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Crush stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Crush wants it to stay on the feet.
Salazar with a poor takedown

and Crush counters with a single leg into guard. Salazar didn't expect that.
Crush stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Salazar swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Crush advances position into side control!
Salazar is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Crush asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Crush wants to control but Salazar is keeping him busy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Crush wants to stand but Salazar is controlling his arm.

Crush is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Salazar is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Salazar tries to buck Crush off but Crush is having none of it.

Crush tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Crush has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Crush in side control, throwing shots but Salazar defends.
Salazar tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Crush wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Crush wants to stand but Salazar has his arm trapped.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Crush tries to move to mount but Salazar blocks the move with his legs.
Crush is looking to take a break and control but Salazar is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Crush doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Crush misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Salazar scores with a nice right hand.
Crush circles away from the clinch attempt

and Crush counters with a single leg into guard. Salazar didn't expect that.

Crush wants to stand but Salazar has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Salazar keeping moving, preventing Crush from controlling successfully.
Crush stopping the sweep attempt from Salazar.
Crush trying to control but Salazar is working from the bottom.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Salazar controls Crush momentarily but Crush frees himself.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Crush gets the takedown into side control.
Salazar bucks up and tries to throw Crush off but instead Crush has got his back!

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Salazar trying to get back to his feet but Crush is in full control for now.

Crush patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Salazar shoots in for a takedown but Crush shows good takedown defense.
Crush fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Salazar manages to avoid it.
Salazar gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Crush moves into the clinch.

Crush gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Crush wants to control but Salazar is keeping him busy.
Crush wants to stand but Salazar has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Crush prevents Salazar from standing back up.
Crush thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Salazar's head.
Salazar misses with some strikes from the bottom.

Salazar wants to improve his position but Crush is controlling well.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Salazar is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Crush's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Crush's back!

Salazar goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Crush is on top in guard.

Crush wants to get up but he can't break Salazar's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Crush is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Salazar can do to turn this around?
Crush with a flurry of punches that miss.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Crush accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Crush passes Salazar's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Crush seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Salazar does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Salazar fails in his attempt to clinch.

Crush is trying to force a seperation but Salazar has the dominant position.

Salazar tries to pull guard but Crush won't allow it.
Ultra Crush has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tristan Salazar.

Crush stands and throws Salazar's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Salazar can't do much from the bottom here.
Salazar tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Crush trying to control the action but Salazar is working from the bottom.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Crush sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Salazar is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Crush gets tackled into the cage by Salazar. Salazar maintains the clinch.

Crush drops back looking for a leg! Salazar is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Salazar manages to kick Crush off! Crush jumps back into Salazar's guard.

Crush loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Salazar is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Salazar is looking to take a break and control but Crush is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Crush is refusing to be controlled, as Salazar sits in half guard.
Crush wants to control but Salazar is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Crush on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Crush tries to get out of the position.

Tristan Salazar has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Ultra Crush is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Crush had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Salazar defends it easily.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ultra Crush.
Well Crush has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
