PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Steel Adams (ranked 1652 p4p, 2623 weight class) and Kenjiro Tokugawa (ranked 175 p4p, 257 weight class). The key to victory for Steel Adams has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Steel Adams!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kenjiro Tokugawa!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Matti Vanhoillinen and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Tokugawa lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Adams has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Adams and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Tokugawa has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Adams drives through and clinches with Tokugawa against the cage.
Adams is pushing Tokugawa up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Adams's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Tokugawa circles away from the clinch attempt.
Tokugawa is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

It looks like Kenjiro Tokugawa has been cut.

Adams closes the distance and clinches.
Tokugawa goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Tokugawa lands a body punch in the clinch.

Tokugawa has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Adams regains guard immediately.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Tokugawa throws a big right hand that misses.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Adams has his foot on Tokugawa's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Tokugawa works his way back into a safe position though.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Tokugawa really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Adams. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Adams is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Adams working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Tokugawa doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Tokugawa manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Tokugawa throws a strike but Adams rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Adams is standing up over Tokugawa. Tokugawa looks to escape but Adams dives into side control.

Adams tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Adams tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Adams has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Adams goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Tokugawa rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Adams's guard! Nice work there by Tokugawa!

Adams seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

Tokugawa wants to control from the top but Adams keeps moving.

Tokugawa not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Adams manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Tokugawa manages to get himself to full guard.

Adams wants to pass the guard but Tokugawa is keeping the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Adams shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Tokugawa sprawls well. Tokugawa wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Adams gets slowly back to his feet.

Adams is trying to control but can't.

Tokugawa stops Adams from getting back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Tokugawa is nestled in close to Adams, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Tokugawa rolls with it to try and escape but Adams cranks on the arm and Tokugawa is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
