PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Anton Kongo (ranked 25460 p4p, 4438 weight class) and Reed Sherman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Anton Kongo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Reed Sherman!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, James Glass and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kongo has a takedown stuffed.

Kongo drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Sherman tries to buck Kongo off but Kongo is having none of it.

Kongo goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Sherman has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Kongo but great work by Sherman.
Kongo wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sherman is trying to get an arm triangle but Kongo is defending well.
Kongo prevents Sherman from moving into mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Sherman working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Sherman lands a decent elbow from side control.
Kongo wants to control but Sherman postures up.
Kongo tries to bench press Sherman off him but Sherman keeps the position.
Sherman tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Sherman decides to take the fight back to the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kongo scores with a one two! Sherman had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Kongo ducks under a wild hook from Sherman.
Sherman shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kongo but Kongo pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Kongo shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Sherman napping and manages to drive through into side control!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Sherman manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Sherman has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Sherman looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kongo keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Sherman sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Kongo knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Sherman on the ground.
Sherman lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Kongo tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Sherman lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Sherman lands with some strikes.
Kongo working to try and regain half guard.

Sherman moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Kongo has worked his arm free - good work by Kongo!
Sherman lands a few punches from side control.
Kongo is trying to get back to half guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Reed Sherman dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Sherman dives in and grabs Kongo's left leg, looking for a takedown. Kongo pushes down on Sherman's head and hops out.

Sherman closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Kongo did well to prevent Sherman getting side control.
Kongo tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Sherman manages to move to mount!

Sherman jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Kongo is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Kongo and Sherman has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Kongo gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kongo is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sherman lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Sherman quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Sherman but it's paid off an Kongo is forced to tap! Nice work by Sherman.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:33 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Reed Sherman!
