Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Deshawn Mcknight (ranked 2484 p4p, 5531 weight class) and Kyoji Akawi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Deshawn Mcknight!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Kyoji Akawi!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Santiago Holmes and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Akawi shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Mcknight's guard.
Mcknight pulls Akawi in close to prevent any damage.
Akawi won't allow Mcknight to sweep him here.
Akawi wants to control from the top but Mcknight keeps moving.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Mcknight is on top in guard.

Mcknight is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mcknight has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Akawi has momentary wrist control but Mcknight slips an elbow through the middle.
Akawi can't keep his opponent in guard - Mcknight advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Akawi has hold of Mcknight's hands but Mcknight slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Akawi really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mcknight. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Akawi misses with some strikes from the bottom.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Mcknight in particular looking to stall.
Mcknight winds up and cracks Akawi with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Mcknight lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Mcknight wants to free his trapped foot but Akawi is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Mcknight staying calm.
Mcknight seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Akawi for as long as he can get away with.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mcknight connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Akawi some visible discomfort.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Mcknight shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Mcknight was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Mcknight definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Mcknight lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Mcknight prevents Akawi from escaping the position.
Mcknight remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Mcknight is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Akawi can do to turn this around?

Mcknight is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Akawi's shoulder. That is not cool.
Mcknight continues to stall.
Mcknight scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Akawi to see if he's OK.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

In his post fight interview, Deshawn Mcknight started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
