Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Steve Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Takero Yoshi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Steve Alves! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Takero Yoshi! The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Shirou Masuda and Yukihiro Shimada.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A jab from Alves misses. Nice defenses there by Yoshi. Yoshi drops Alves with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Alves looks back up at him and smiles so Yoshi waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
Alves jabbing away but nothing is landing. Alves displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Yoshi. Alves paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. Yoshi is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Yoshi throws the left hand but Alves avoids the punch easily. Yoshi on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
It looks like Takero Yoshi has been cut. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Yoshi wants to clinch. Alves takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Alves scores with a jab to the head.
Alves lands with a nice combination. Yoshi backs away looking to recover.
That's one minute gone in the round. Yoshi misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Alves.
Yoshi slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range. Yoshi tries to clinch there but Alves circles away.
Yoshi misses with a looping right. Alves jabs Yoshi right on the nose. Yoshi blinks but takes it well. Yoshi tries to close the distance and clinch up but Alves swats him away and circles back towards the center. Alves fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. Yoshi dips to his left and cracks Alves with an uppercut! A big right from Alves misses. Alves lunges at Yoshi with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Yoshi's hand.
That has opened up Takero Yoshi's cut even more. Yoshi tests Alves's chin there with a solid looking shot. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Alves avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Yoshi looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Alves!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Yoshi throwing strikes here but Alves is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Yoshi sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it! Alves wants to get back to his feet.
Alves bucks up and throws Yoshi to the side - he's got back to his feet. Great escape! Nice takedown defense from Yoshi. No joy for Alves on that attempt. Yoshi feints and as Alves raises his hands in defense, Yoshi changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Alves is breathing heavily. Alves keeping moving, preventing Yoshi from controlling successfully.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Yoshi in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Yoshi slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Yoshi tries to advance position but instead Alves slips a leg back in to half guard. Yoshi is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Alves has managed to free his arm - good work.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Yoshi is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Alves defends it well. Yoshi has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Yoshi throwing shots but Alves is blocking nicely. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Takero Yoshi will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Takero Yoshi's cut. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Yoshi tries to close the distance and clinch up but Alves swats him away and circles back towards the center. Yoshi lands a nice looking body shot.
A combination from Alves does no damage. The fighters circling - Alves throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Yoshi drops Alves with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Alves looks back up at him and smiles so Yoshi waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
Yoshi throws a right and a left that Alves avoids nicely. Yoshi with a lazy takedown attempt and Alves counters with a two punch combo. Takero Yoshi seems to be getting the better of the standup. Alves pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Yoshi fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Alves manages to avoid it. Alves falls off balance throwing a combination
and Yoshi counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Yoshi wants to clinch up but Alves keeps it at a distance. Alves is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all. Yoshi tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Alves counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Yoshi keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Alves. Yoshi throws a hook to the side of Alves's head but Alves sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Steve Alves is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Yoshi swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Alves on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Alves moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross. Yoshi shoots and misses and Alves counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Yoshi closes the distance and clinches. Yoshi is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath. Alves blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Yoshi tries to stall but Alves uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Alves is trying to break the clinch but Yoshi is controlling him. Yoshi tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Steve Alves has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Takero Yoshi. Alves is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the ropes. Alves manages to break the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Alves walks into a straight right hand from Yoshi. Alves keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Yoshi connects with a right hand. Alves shakes it off. Yoshi goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Yoshi tries to close the distance and clinch up but Alves swats him away and circles back towards the center. Yoshi scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Alves throws a lazy right hand but Yoshi sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Alves takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him. The fighters circling - Alves throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Yoshi looks to clinch and Alves counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Yoshi sizes up Alves with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle. Alves swats away the attempt to clinch by Yoshi.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Yoshi throws a right hand that Alves ducks under and follows up with a left that Alves also avoids with ease. Yoshi fails to land the takedown. Yoshi fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Donk. Alves catches Yoshi right on the button with a cross. Yoshi ducks under a wild hook from Alves. Alves ducks under a wild hook from Yoshi. Alves misses with a hook. Alves is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Yoshi. Yoshi lands a glancing blow to the side of Alves's head.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Alves slaps away a takedown attempt from Yoshi, before circling back to the center of the mat. Yoshi tries to close the distance and clinch but Alves swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Yoshi slips a jab from Alves. Yoshi lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Yoshi. Yoshi tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. A telegraphed right hand from Yoshi misses the target. Yoshi scores with a body shot.
Alves scores with a one two! Yoshi had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
The cut above Takero Yoshi's eye is starting to cause him problems now. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Alves throws a series of punches but Yoshi moves out of range. Yoshi with a lazy takedown attempt and Alves counters with a stiff right hand. Yoshi tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Alves was well out of range. Poor timing from Yoshi. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Takero Yoshi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Takero Yoshi's cut. That's time! Alves's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Yoshi darts in trying to clinch and Alves cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Yoshi tries to clinch but fails miserably and Alves counters with a lovely straight right hand! Yoshi lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Takero Yoshi is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Alves gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Yoshi to score an easy takedown into full guard. Yoshi content to stall in guard here. Yoshi loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Yoshi sitting in guard, not really doing much. Steve Alves has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Yoshi trying to control but Alves is working from the bottom. Yoshi is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. Yoshi stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Alves swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Alves keeping moving, preventing Yoshi from controlling successfully.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Yoshi shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Alves counters with a left and a right that stings Yoshi. No joy there for Alves, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Alves takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Yoshi looks to clinch and Alves counters with a one-two to the body. Yoshi tries to close the distance and clinch up but Alves swats him away and circles back towards the center. Alves leaves Yoshi with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
And that's the end of the fight! Takero Yoshi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Yoshi has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
