Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rice Puto!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Yukihiro Shimada and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Puto circles away from the clinch attempt
and Puto counters with a straight right hand.
Sexton with a poor takedown
and Puto connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Sexton tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Puto makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Sexton tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Puto counters with a straight right hand.
Sexton is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Sexton closes the distance looking to clinch
and Puto counters with a right hand to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sexton shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Sexton drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Sexton fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Romeo Sexton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

We've been hearing reports that Sexton has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

and Puto counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

enabling Puto to counter with a crisp jab.

and Puto counters with a nice uppercut.
Puto lands a two punch combo.

and Puto makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Oh Sexton is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Sexton fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Puto sprawls well initially but Sexton persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Sexton is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Puto is surviving well by controlling Sexton's body position as best he can.
Puto is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

Puto is trying to get to the ropes to help him get back to his feet.
Sexton tries to control but Puto wriggling away.
Puto looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Sexton is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Puto is surviving well by controlling Sexton's body position as best he can.

Sexton goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Puto is on top in guard.
Sexton looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Puto puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Sexton is staying active underneath Puto, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Sexton is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Sexton works his way to full guard. Good work.
Puto really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sexton. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Puto must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Sexton looking for a sweep. Not yet Sexton, not yet.
Puto is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Sexton wants to improve his position but instead Puto has moved into half guard.
Sexton wants to control but Puto is keeping busy.
Puto tries to pass to full mount but Sexton defends it.
Sexton is trying to maintain the position but Puto is very close to passing his half guard.

Sexton is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Puto is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Sexton wants to improve his position but Puto is controlling well.
Sexton pushes Puto off looking to stand but Puto dives back in and keeps control.
Sexton tries to get to full guard but Puto has control of the leg.
Puto is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Sexton gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Puto.
Sexton looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Puto is fending him off so far but Sexton persists. Nope, Puto circles away and we're back to standing.
Puto lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Sexton backs up against the ropes.

It looks like Romeo Sexton has been cut.
Sexton has his takedown stuffed
and Puto counters with a series of strikes that really hurt Sexton! The ref looks into his eyes and sees nobody home - he's called the fight! This one is all over!
