And in the blue corner, fighting out of Montreal, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 2 losses; Darragh Prendergast! The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Elvis Blanc and Trevor Gratis.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Prendergast stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Prendergast wants it to stay on the feet. Prendergast leaves Francis with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Prendergast fails to land the takedown. Prendergast shoots in for a double leg but Francis sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Francis shoots in for a takedown but Prendergast shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Roman Francis. That's going to take a lot out of him. Prendergast fails with a takedown attempt. Prendergast fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Prendergast shoots in looking for a takedown. Francis tries to sprawl out of it but Prendergast keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Francis manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Prendergast has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight. Prendergast shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Prendergast fails with a takedown attempt from distance. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Francis tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Prendergast defends well and Francis ends up having to push Prendergast into the ropes where they will battle it out in the clinch. Francis wants to take the fight to the mat but Prendergast manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Prendergast goes for a takedown attempt but Francis pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Prendergast shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Francis but Francis pushes him off and we're back to square one. Prendergast looks winded! That's one minute gone in the round. Francis gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Prendergast to score an easy takedown into full guard. Francis lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Francis (2) vs (2) Prendergast Francis drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Francis as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Prendergast screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Francis! Nice submission victory there!
