PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Halo Halo (ranked 4079 p4p, 4078 weight class) and Reid Raider (ranked 439 p4p, 437 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Halo Halo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Reid Raider!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Kenichi Hosakawa and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Halo throws a looping overhand right but Raider ducks down to avoid it.
Halo misses with a hook. Raider ducked under it nicely.
Raider fails in his attempt to clinch.
Raider wants to clinch up but Halo keeps it at a distance.
Raider uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Halo.
Raider moves to clinch but Halo breaks away

so Halo counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Halo is stalling in the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Raider is looking for a triangle but Halo pushes his legs off easily.
Halo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Raider swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Halo pushing down on Raider's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Raider is looking to control Halo's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Raider avoid being mounted?

Halo seems to be working for a kimura but Raider defends the submission attempt.
Halo looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Halo is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Halo is taking a breather. Raider says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Raider flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Halo closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Halo knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Raider on the ground.

Raider makes his way to full guard, as Halo worked for a kimura.
Halo wants to pass the guard but Raider is keeping the position.
Halo controls from within his opponent's guard.
Raider keeping full guard, as Halo tries to pass.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Raider controls Halo momentarily but Halo frees himself.
Halo stays in close to Raider's body and controls the position.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Halo stands and throws Raider's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
You can see the frustration on Raider's face as Halo controls the position.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Raider has eaten all the pies!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Raider shoots for a takedown but Halo saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Halo is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Halo throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Halo Halo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Reid Raider.
Raider throws a sloppy head kick and Halo moves out of range easily.
Halo throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Raider scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Halo moves into full guard.
Raider is breathing heavily.
Halo pulls Raider in close to prevent any damage.

Halo is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Raider is aware though and is defending well.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Halo is on top in guard.

Halo works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Halo performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Raider is pressing down on Halo's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Raider not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Halo's corner is telling him to maintain position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Halo swings for the body but Raider moves out of range.
Raider shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Halo appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Raider tries to close the distance and clinch up but Halo swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Halo closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Raider's guard.

Halo is working hard here to advance position.
Halo slips nicely into half guard.

Halo wants to control but Raider is keeping him busy.
Halo trying to mount his opponent but Raider defends it.

Halo looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Halo Halo dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Raider is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Raider defending well as Halo loads up on a big left hand.
Halo jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Halo just misses with a punch to the body.
Halo is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Raider.
A looping hook to the body misses from Halo. Raider does a little dance to reset his feet.
Raider doesn't manage to clinch there - Halo circles away.
Halo throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Halo looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Raider!
Raider is not content to let Halo control the position.
Raider defending against the ground and pound.

Halo tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Raider tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Halo taking a breather here.
Halo tries to move to full mount but Raider actually manages to regain half guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Raider won't allow Halo to pass to mount.
Raider is looking to control Halo's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Raider avoid being mounted?
Halo will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Halo wants to lay and pray for a moment but Raider keeps working.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Halo here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Halo thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Raider slips a jab from Halo.

Halo throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Raider was covering up waiting for the punch and Halo finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Halo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Raider swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Halo Halo is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Raider trying to hold on to Halo's head to control him but Halo postures up.

Halo wants to work for an arm triangle but Raider is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Halo is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Halo is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Raider has managed to free his arm - good work.
Raider is looking for a sweep. Halo is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Halo Halo showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Halo has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
