PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Kristian Erickson (ranked 4124 p4p, 4053 weight class) and Askhab Askhabov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.

With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Askhab Askhabov!
The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Bart Greer and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Erickson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Askhabov changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

Askhabov changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Erickson looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Askhabov controlling the position from side mount.
Erickson is trying to get back to his feet.
Askhabov in side control, just content to control the action for now.

Erickson is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Askhabov asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Erickson takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Askhabov has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Erickson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Askhabov has hold of Erickson's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Erickson manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
You get the feeling that Erickson really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Askhabov tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Askhabov's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Askhabov has control of Erickson's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Erickson regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Askhabov slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Askhabov's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Askhabov lands a nice short elbow.

Well, if Askhabov is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
