PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alexei Brovarnik (ranked 2786 p4p, 2790 weight class) and Michael Fochi (ranked 313 p4p, 314 weight class). Brovarnik comes to the cage accompanied by Colours - DJ Mind X. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 20 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alexei Brovarnik!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 18 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Michael Fochi!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, John Kavanagh and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brovarnik pulls out of a head kick attempt.
A looping hook to the body misses from Fochi. Brovarnik does a little dance to reset his feet.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Fochi has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Fochi misses with an uppercut.
Fochi just misses with a punch to the body.

Brovarnik pushes Fochi up against the cage in a clinch.

Fochi gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Brovarnik regains guard.
Fochi trying to control the position from guard on top but Brovarnik is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Fochi trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Fochi must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Brovarnik working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Fochi doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Fochi manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Fochi trying to move into half guard but instead Brovarnik has managed to sweep!


Fochi has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Brovarnik doesn't defend quickly enough and Fochi has managed to lock this one up! Can Brovarnik escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Fochi on a fantastic submission victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Michael Fochi!
