PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jake Tyler (ranked 4014 p4p, 4106 weight class) and Gabriel Dubois (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jake Tyler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gabriel Dubois!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Shigeki Sano and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tyler shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Dubois is trying to counter with his kicks.
Dubois is looking to clinch.
Tyler appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.

Tyler shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Dubois has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Tyler is on him like a limpet, forcing Dubois back against the cage.
Tyler is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Dubois pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Tyler using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Dubois has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Tyler pulls guard effortlessly.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Tyler is trying to control the position but Dubois postures up.
Dubois must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Tyler is adopting a defensive guard.
Tyler keeping moving, preventing Dubois from controlling successfully.

Dubois throws a big right hand that misses.
Dubois trying to control but Tyler is working from the bottom.
Dubois wants to pass the guard but Tyler is keeping the position.
Dubois prevents Tyler from getting back to his feet.

Dubois stands up and waves to Tyler to follow him.

Dubois feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Tyler is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Dubois missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Dubois is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Tyler has control of Dubois's left arm, preventing Dubois from doing any damage.

Tyler is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Dubois throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Tyler drives through with a takedown into guard.
Tyler stays in close to Dubois's body and controls the position.
Dubois is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Tyler is stalling in the full guard.
Tyler throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Dubois works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Tyler trying to control the position from guard on top but Dubois is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Dubois is trying to keep Tyler in close.
Tyler slips nicely into half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Dubois tries to kick Tyler off but Tyler keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dubois tries to roll over but Tyler keeps him under control.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Gabriel Dubois dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Tyler looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Dubois!

Dubois sneaks out the side door and pushes Tyler away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Dubois closes the distance and clinches.
Dubois's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Tyler tries to pull guard but Dubois holds him up against the cage and eventually Tyler drops back down to his feet.
Tyler jumps guard but Dubois stands there with Tyler around his waist. Tyler gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Tyler tries to pull guard but Dubois holds him up against the cage and eventually Tyler drops back down to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jake Tyler. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Dubois has Tyler pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Tyler manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Tyler wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Dubois keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Tyler's efforts to push away.
Dubois comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.

It looks like Jake Tyler has been cut.

Dubois breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Tyler stuffs the takedown.

Dubois moves into the clinch successfully.

Tyler on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

Tyler closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Dubois's guard.
Tyler is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Tyler trying to control the position from guard on top but Dubois is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Dubois is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Dubois working a defensive guard but Tyler manages to pass into side control anyway.
Tyler wants to control but Dubois is keeping him busy.

Tyler working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Dubois is pushing Tyler's head away, looking to escape. Tyler manages to hold on to the position though.
You can see the frustration on Dubois's face as Tyler controls the position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Tyler is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Dubois is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Dubois is looking to reverse the position.
Dubois prevents Tyler from improving position.
Dubois is being controlled here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Tyler is chipping away with strikes.
Tyler cracks Dubois with a big right hand but Dubois just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Gabriel Dubois will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The cut man is working on Jake Tyler's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Dubois is looking to clinch but Tyler is avoiding it.

Dubois gets tackled into the cage by Tyler. Tyler maintains the clinch.
Tyler goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Tyler has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Dubois uses from the top position.
Tyler looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Tyler preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Dubois wants to control from the top but Tyler keeps moving.
Tyler wants to get back to his feet but Dubois is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Tyler not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Dubois stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Tyler swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Tyler takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Tyler shoots in and drives through. Dubois sprawls well.

Tyler moves into range and clinches up with Dubois.
Tyler prevents the takedown attempt.

Dubois breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Tyler swats away the attempt to clinch by Dubois.

A low kick from Dubois misses

and Tyler counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Dubois takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Tyler is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Dubois sees it coming and defends easily.
Tyler content to control rather than advance.
Tyler wants to control but Dubois is keeping him busy.

Tyler is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Gabriel Dubois is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Dubois fails with a takedown attempt.
Dubois moves in looking to clinch but Tyler pushes him off.
Dubois misses with a two punch combination.

Dubois moves into range and clinches up with Tyler.
Tyler displaying some good clinch control by pressing Dubois up against the cage.
Dubois is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Jake Tyler has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jake Tyler has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gabriel Dubois.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Tyler jumps into guard, dragging Dubois to the mat.

Jake Tyler showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Dubois has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
