Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alexander Smirilov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shifiinity Powel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Luis Engracia and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Powel shoots in but Smirilov avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Smirilov keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Smirilov shoots in and bounces Powel off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Powel looks gassed!
Smirilov throws a big right hand that misses.
Smirilov trying to control the position from guard on top but Powel is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Smirilov has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Powel is proving hard to escape from.

Powel working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Smirilov doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Smirilov manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Shifiinity Powel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Powel gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Smirilov counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Smirilov.

Smirilov turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Smirilov tries to move to mount but Powel blocks the move with his legs.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Smirilov wants to lay and pray for a moment but Powel keeps working.
Smirilov tries to stand but Powel is controlling his head.
Powel gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Powel is looking for a sweep. Smirilov is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Smirilov uses his free foot to push down on Powel's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Powel.
Smirilov looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Powel swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
Powel tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Smirilov will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Smirilov lands a big shot there that rocks Powel but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
A nice elbow there by Smirilov.
Smirilov breaks from Powel's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Smirilov throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Powel is mounted and he's throwing punches. Is that wise?
Smirilov is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Powel is surviving well by controlling Smirilov's body position as best he can.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Powel is trying to escape the mount.
Smirilov tries to control but Powel wriggling away.
Powel gets back to half guard.

Smirilov lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Powel tries for a takedown but Smirilov circles away easily
so Smirilov counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Powel looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smirilov throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Powel works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Smirilov controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Smirilov tries to free his leg and advance position but Powel is retaining full guard.
Powel has his foot on Smirilov's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Smirilov works his way back into a safe position though.

Smirilov stands and throws Powel's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Smirilov wants to finish this one by submission but Powel is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Smirilov.
Powel wants to hold on but Smirilov pushes him away.
Powel is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Smirilov is staying active.
Smirilov scoring with strikes but Powel is staying in there.

Smirilov can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Powel is looking to escape.
Smirilov jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Powel is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Powel and Smirilov has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Powel looking for a triangle here. Smirilov is fighting it but it looks tight! Powel pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Smirilov is tapping out - this one is all over!
