The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Welch chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Waller can pounce on him.
Waller gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Welch to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Waller looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Waller knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Welch on the ground.
Welch pushes down on Waller's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Waller looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Welch is working for a submission of some sort.
Waller wants to improve his position but Welch is controlling well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Welch slips a nice elbow through Waller's hands, connecting with Waller's forehead.

Welch lands a couple of good shots and Waller has given up his back, trying to escape the position!

Welch looking to break Waller's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Waller remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Welch will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
Welch is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Waller is defending well though. Welch let's go of the attempt for now.
