Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between DeAndre Ward (ranked 3930 p4p, 3917 weight class) and Baron Welch (ranked 264 p4p, 263 weight class). DeAndre Ward has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, DeAndre Ward! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Baron Welch! The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Trevor Gratis and Elvis Blanc.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Welch shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Ward sprawls well. Ward wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Welch gets slowly back to his feet. Welch shoots and misses and Ward counters with a left and a right that stings Welch. Welch tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Ward defends well and Welch ends up having to push Ward into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. DeAndre Ward has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Baron Welch. Nice sprawl there from Ward as Welch shoots in. And Ward counters with a quick kick to the body but Welch blocks it. Welch misses with a takedown and Ward counters with a nice double leg into side control. Welch won't be happy with that. Ward tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Ward is trying to get an arm triangle but Welch is defending well. Welch is looking for a sweep.
That's one minute gone in the round. Welch sneaks back into half guard. Welch is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Ward's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Ward's back! Welch has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Ward has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Welch is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Ward has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here. Ward tries to escape the position.
Welch working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet. Ward trying to control the hands but Welch breaks the grip. Ward can't escape the position.
Welch is persistently looking for the submission but Ward is defending it well.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground! This has been an exciting period of action! Welch looking for the choke but no joy.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Welch looking for the choke but no joy. Welch looks winded! Welch working for the choke. Ward tries to escape the position.
Ward staying busy and making it hard for Welch to control. Ward showing good submission defense here.
Welch has the hooks in. Ward is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Welch working for the choke. Welch gets his hands free as Ward looks to control. Welch has his opponent's back and is working for the choke. Welch is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Ward has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here. Ward tries to escape the position.
Ward trying to control the hands but Welch won't let him. Ward defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Welch's arms. Ward is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Welch gets his way!
Ward rolls, trying to escape but Welch keeps control of the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Ward looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment. Welch doesn't have the hooks in and Ward manages to turn into his guard.
Welch manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Ward manages to get himself to full guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Welch passes Ward's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Ward is not content to let Welch control the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Ward actively working from the bottom here. Ward looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Welch working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Baron Welch dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action! Welch swinging wildly here.
Ward feinted there with a counter leg kick. Welch gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Ward counters with a thumping low kick. Ward motions for Welch to come forward. Ward throws a leg kick but it misses it's target. No luck for Welch with that takedown attempt. It looked like Ward was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Welch. Ward fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Welch avoids it really well and circles away. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Welch shoots in but doesn't get the takedown so Ward counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. DeAndre Ward has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Baron Welch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Welch manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Ward manages to get himself to full guard.
Welch sitting in guard, not really doing much. Ward had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Welch defends it easily. Welch has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Welch stands and throws Ward's legs to the side, diving into side control. Welch has hold of Ward's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Ward tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Welch cranks the arm and Ward screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Ward, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Baron Welch!
