PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Scherwin Blake (ranked 1882 p4p, 1977 weight class) and Pykky Kalla (ranked 244 p4p, 251 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Scherwin Blake!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Pykky Kalla!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Aleksandr Martynov and Konstantin Menshow.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Blake loads up on a big right hand but Kalla slips the punch.
Blake missing with a left hand there. Kalla was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Blake lands a nice looking body shot.
Kalla throws a hook to the side of Blake's head but Blake sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Blake definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Blake throws a looping overhand right but Kalla ducks down to avoid it.
Blake walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Kalla scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Kalla closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Blake throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Kalla on the side of the head.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Kalla has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Blake has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Kalla.

Blake feints and then cracks Kalla's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Kalla down.

Blake swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.

Scherwin Blake is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Blake takes a swing at Kalla's ribcage but misses.
Blake will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Kalla takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Kalla is trying hard to land a takedown here. Blake sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Kalla jabs Blake right on the nose. Blake blinks but takes it well.
Kalla throws out a loose jab but Blake uses good head movement to avoid it.
Blake was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

Kalla changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Blake looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kalla scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Blake to see if he's OK.
Blake is working to avoid the ground and pound but Kalla connects with a decent elbow.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Kalla lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Blake wants to control but Kalla is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Blake has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Kalla is working away from the top position though.
Blake wants to get back to full guard.
Kalla looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Blake with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Blake can't escape the position.
Kalla has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
