In the red corner, competing out of St Petersburg, with a TWGC record of 3 wins and 9 losses; Scott Hill! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Tokyo, with a TWGC record of 2 wins and 1 losses; Alexander Borgia! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Hill feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Hill (2) vs (0) Borgia Hill stays in close to Borgia's body and controls the position. Borgia has control of Hill's left arm, preventing Hill from doing any damage. Hill tries to free his leg and advance position but Borgia is retaining full guard. Borgia lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Hill (2) vs (2) Borgia Borgia won't allow Hill to sweep him here. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hill seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Borgia forces his way into half guard.

It looks like Borgia might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Borgia is continuing to stall.

He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Borgia controlling the position well here. Hill rolled but Borgia kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

That's seven minutes gone in the round. Borgia controls the action. Hill defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Borgia's arms. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Borgia gets his hands free as Hill looks to control. Borgia just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

Well, with Borgia on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Hill is tapping out... Can he escape the position? Hill trying to control but not successfully. Borgia biding his time, controlling Hill. Borgia is not going to allow Hill to sit and survive in this position.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. Hill is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Borgia.
You can see the frustration on Hill's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Borgia controlling the position. Hill not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Borgia tries to land a sweep but no joy. Hill passes into half guard.
That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Hill is keen to just control but Borgia is a slippery customer. Hill looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Hill is working hard here to advance position. Borgia moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Hill wants to control from the top but Borgia keeps moving.
That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Borgia looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hill is one step ahead there. Hill trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Hill passes Borgia's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Hill keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Hill has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Borgia keeping hold of Hill's head, controlling as best he can.
That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Borgia is refusing to be controlled, as Hill sits in half guard. Hill perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Borgia is trying to get back to full guard. Hill is keen to just control but Borgia is a slippery customer.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Borgia wants to control but Hill is keeping busy and won't allow it. Hill prevents Borgia from improving his position. Hill seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Borgia does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Borgia is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Borgia is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Borgia is staying active underneath Hill, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
