PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Techno Viking (ranked 5851 p4p, 3790 weight class) and Hoss Dukes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Viking comes into the arena with Save, Change and Exit - Winstan blaring out of the sound system. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Techno Viking!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Hoss Dukes!
The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Michael Johnstone and Santiago Holmes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Some wild striking there from Dukes.
Viking definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Dukes dives in and scores a takedown into Viking's guard.
Dukes controls from within his opponent's guard.
Viking throws a couple of heel strikes.
Dukes wants to control from the top but Viking keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Viking is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Viking is really struggling to control Dukes but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Viking wants to sweep but no luck.

Viking is working hard here to advance position.
Viking manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Dukes manages to get himself to full guard.

Dukes wants to stand and escape but Viking is having none of it.
Dukes escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Viking gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Dukes keeping full guard, as Viking tries to pass.
Viking stands and throws Dukes's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Viking wants to control but Dukes is keeping him busy.
Viking throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
Viking lands a decent elbow from side control.
Viking works to advance to full mount. Dukes defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Dukes is bucking up trying to escape but Viking cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Dukes is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Dukes really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Viking. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Viking lands a heavy elbow.
Viking has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Viking connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Dukes takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Dukes is bucking up trying to escape but Viking cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee warns Dukes that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Viking throwing strikes here but Dukes is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Dukes wants to hold on but Viking pushes him away.
Viking can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Dukes is looking to escape.
Viking landing strikes from the mount and Dukes is in trouble!
Viking cracks Dukes with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Dukes is looking to get to half guard.
Viking is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Dukes can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Viking putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
Dukes is wriggling around trying to escape.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Techno Viking dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!
Viking pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Dukes misses the shot to the body.
Viking changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Viking is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Dukes can do to turn this around?
Dukes lands a glancing blow to the side of Viking's head.
Dukes instigates a clinch.
Dukes's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Dukes changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
A telegraphed right hand from Viking misses the target.
Dukes throws a jab when Viking was well out of range.
Viking changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Dukes cracks Viking with a right hand to the side of the head.
We've been informed that Dukes has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

The fighters circling - Dukes throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Viking fails with the takedown.
Dukes ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Viking slips a straight right by Dukes.
Viking throws a hook to the side of Dukes's head but Dukes sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Dukes tries a head kick but it misses.
Dukes throws a head kick but Viking moves out of range.
A right-left combo lands from Viking.
Dukes lands a head shot.
Viking tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Dukes defends well and Viking ends up having to push Dukes into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Viking struggles to land a body shot inside as Dukes controls his hands.
Viking tries to pull guard but Dukes holds him up against the cage and eventually Viking drops back down to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Techno Viking. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Viking swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Dukes breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Dukes defending well as Viking loads up on a big left hand.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Dukes slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Dukes throws a lazy right hand but Viking sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Dukes connects with an inside leg kick.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Viking walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Hoss Dukes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Viking wants to clinch up but Dukes keeps it at a distance.

Dukes has a takedown stuffed.
Viking changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Dukes moves into the clinch.
Viking throws a punch but it's blocked by Dukes.

Dukes blocks an uppercut.
Still in the clinch, Dukes scores with a nice short uppercut.
Viking tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Dukes smiles and moves away.
Dukes might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Viking is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Viking is rocked!
Dukes plants his feet and throws a brutal three punch combo that sends Viking swiftly into unconsciousness! Right, left, right! Boom, boom, boom! Viking face plants, battered and bloodied! He might never be the same again after that finish!
