This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the middleweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 1 wins and 2 losses; Alexei Sykov! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 14 wins and 18 losses; Toby Flenderson! The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Chad Campbell and Jonathan Paton.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Sykov drives through with a takedown into Flenderson's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Sykov (2) vs (0) Flenderson Sykov sitting in guard, not really doing much. Flenderson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Sykov drops back looking for a leg! Flenderson is in trouble here! Flenderson remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Sykov will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke! But no, Flenderson has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Sykov trying to control the position but Flenderson is working away. Flenderson tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad. Score +2 for reaching mount: Sykov (13) vs (7) Flenderson Sykov wants to take Flenderson's back but he can't do it this time. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Sykov is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Flenderson has managed to escape the submission attempt.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. Flenderson regains half guard. Sykov is pressing down on Flenderson's thigh, looking to free his foot. Flenderson is holding on for now. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Sykov works his way into side control. Flenderson wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well. Flenderson tries to get back to half guard but can't. Sykov working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Sykov thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Sykov is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Flenderson is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Sykov has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Flenderson is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Sykov yanks on the arm and Flenderson is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Sykov.
