This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. And in the blue corner, fighting out of Hilo, with a TWGC record of 1 wins and 1 losses; Sambo Sam!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Colin Fray and Chris Saunders.


The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.

Sam moves into range and clinches up with Water.

Sam is fighting off a takedown attempt but Water is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Sam to the mat. Sam regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Water tries to free his leg and advance position but Sam is retaining full guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sam working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Water doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Water manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Sam has his foot on Water's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Water works his way back into a safe position though.

Water looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Sam manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Water manages to get himself to full guard.

Water can't keep his opponent in guard - Sam advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sam is trying for a kimura here. Water looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Sam wins by kimura!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Sambo Sam!
A very excited looking Sambo Sam rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
