Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Devontae Smith (ranked 5276 p4p, 5017 weight class) and Katsumi Orochi (ranked 479 p4p, 471 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Devontae Smith! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Katsumi Orochi! The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yukihiro Yamamoto.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Orochi tries to keep at a distance but Smith has taken the fight into the clinch. Orochi breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Smith tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Orochi paws at him with a jab and circles away. Smith shoots in looking for a takedown. Orochi tries to sprawl out of it but Smith keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Orochi manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Smith wants to clinch. Smith throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Orochi was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind. Orochi's coach down at BANZAI COMBAT ACADEMY TOKYO was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Orochi's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. Smith throws a right hand that Orochi ducks under and follows up with a left that Orochi also avoids with ease. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Smith avoids the head kick by Orochi.
A head kick misses from Smith. Smith displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Orochi throws out the jab. Smith tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Orochi counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
That's one minute gone in the round. Orochi swats away the attempt to clinch by Smith. Devontae Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Orochi slaps away a takedown attempt from Smith, before circling back to the center of the mat. Smith throws a head kick that misses. Orochi connects with a body shot. Smith shoots for a double leg takedown but Orochi sprawls well. He's pushed Smith's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Devontae Smith. That's going to take a lot out of him. A combination from Smith does no damage. And an attempted straight right on the counter from Orochi! But no joy. Smith tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Orochi ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Smith moves away. Smith is looking for a counter combo. Orochi throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Smith. Smith ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Smith throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Orochi's waist but Orochi gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Smith off to one side. Orochi throws the left hand but Smith avoids the punch easily. Smith fails to land with a series of punches.
Smith comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Smith is breathing heavily. Orochi lands with a kick to the temple. Smith shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?" We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Smith lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Orochi circles away quickly and effectively. Smith clinches. Orochi pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Smith moves to clinch but Orochi breaks away enabling Orochi to counter with a crisp jab. Orochi tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Smith was well out of range. Poor timing from Orochi. A head kick misses from Orochi. Orochi swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Katsumi Orochi is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Orochi slips a jab and a cross from Smith.
Orochi circles away from the clinch attempt.
Smith tries for a takedown but Orochi sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Orochi fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Smith looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Smith throws a head kick that misses. Orochi ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Smith moves away. Orochi looks to land a combination but Smith avoids it well. Smith tries to close the distance and clinch up but Orochi swats him away and circles back towards the center. Smith staying out of range there. Smith pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Orochi throws out a counter right but Smith avoids it with no problem. Smith tries to close the distance and clinch up but Orochi swats him away and circles back towards the center. Smith fails with a takedown attempt.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Smith tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him. A decent looking cross lands there for Orochi. Smith keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Smith on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Orochi lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Orochi thuds his shin into the meat of Smith's side. Orochi just misses with a punch to the body.
Orochi throws a body shot but no joy. Smith tries to counter by clinching up but Orochi breaks away and moves out of range. Orochi misses with a series of wild punches.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Katsumi Orochi dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Orochi swats away the attempt to clinch by Smith. Orochi has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Smith with a hook. Orochi swats away the attempt to clinch by Smith. Smith keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Orochi. Left hook, right uppercut from Smith. Smith on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Orochi. Orochi obviously looking to wear him down.

As Orochi looks to move away, Smith throws a big counter combo but Orochi just gets out of the way. Smith throws a lazy head kick and Orochi counters with a good, hard body kick but Smith shrugs it off. Katsumi Orochi seems to be getting the better of the standup. Smith goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Orochi throws a head kick that Smith semi-blocks.
That's one minute gone in the round. Orochi changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. No luck for Smith with that takedown attempt. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Orochi throws a jab but it's blocked by Smith. Smith throws a combination that misses and Orochi makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick. Smith shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Orochi but Orochi pushes him off and we're back to square one. Orochi lands a jab to the head.
A jab lands there for Orochi. Smith tries to clinch up. Orochi throws a head kick but Smith moves out of range.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Orochi misses with a straight right. Smith clinches up with Orochi and pushes him back against the cage. Smith jumps guard but Orochi stands there with Smith around his waist. Smith gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Devontae Smith. That's going to take a lot out of him. Orochi breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Smith fails with the takedown and Orochi counters with a head kick. That will keep Smith thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks! Smith moves away from the strike by Orochi. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Orochi fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Smith wants to clinch up but Orochi keeps it at a distance. Smith on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. Orochi throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Smith's head.
Smith is rocked! Orochi throws a shot from downtown. Smith moves away and avoids it. Oh Smith is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Orochi sizes up Smith with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle. Devontae Smith is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Orochi is throwing punches like he's double parked. Oh my word! Huge right hand from Orochi shuts the power down on Smith. Lights out, game over! Orochi is your winner.
