PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Chou Rico (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Anderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Chou Rico!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Alex Anderson!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rico drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Rico controlling from side mount.
Anderson is pushing Rico's head away, looking to escape. Rico manages to hold on to the position though.
Anderson avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Rico.
Rico trying to control the position but Anderson is working away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Anderson tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Anderson is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Anderson is trying to buck Rico off.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Rico clinches up with Anderson and pushes him back against the cage.
Anderson gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Rico.
Rico wants to get back to striking at distance but Anderson won't allow it.
Anderson is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Rico breaks the clinch.
Horrible takedown by Rico or perhaps it was just good defense by Anderson which made him look bad.
Rico shoots in for a takedown but Anderson shows good takedown defense.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chou Rico. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Anderson takes one to the side of the head.

Anderson drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Anderson is stalling in the full guard.
Anderson scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rico keeping moving, preventing Anderson from controlling successfully.

Anderson controls from within his opponent's guard.
Anderson's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Anderson trying to control but Rico is working from the bottom.
Rico is trying to keep Anderson in close.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Anderson trying to control the position from guard on top but Rico is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Anderson forces his way into half guard.
Rico is in trouble now - Anderson has advanced to mount!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Anderson takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Alex Anderson will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Anderson gets the takedown into side control.
Rico really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Rico can't do much from the bottom here.
Anderson staying calm.

Rico throws Anderson to one side and escapes!
Rico tries to clinch there but Anderson circles away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rico shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Anderson counters with a nice double leg into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Anderson controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Anderson trying to control but Rico is working from the bottom.

Despite being in the dominant position, Alex Anderson just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Anderson shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Anderson seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rico is pressing down on Anderson's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Anderson is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Anderson wants to control from the top but Rico keeps moving.
Anderson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rico swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Anderson preventing the sweep.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Anderson trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Anderson stays in close to Rico's body and controls the position.
Anderson tries to free his leg and advance position but Rico is retaining full guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Rico tries to clinch up

and Anderson counters with a shoot takedown. Rico fights it but they end up in guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Anderson pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rico is keeping the position for now.
Rico is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Anderson trying to control but Rico is working from the bottom.

Anderson gets to his feet - Rico follows without any prompting.

Anderson scores a takedown into full mount!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alex Anderson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Rico gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Anderson is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Anderson wants to pass the guard but Rico is keeping the position.
Anderson looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Anderson prevents Rico from getting back to his feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Rico wants to sweep but no luck.
Anderson is in close to Rico's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Rico trying to keep a closed guard but Anderson is proving a slippery customer.
Anderson wants to control from the top but Rico keeps moving.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Anderson gets the takedown into side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rico is not content to let Anderson control the position.
Rico is trying to control Anderson's posture but Anderson avoids it.
Rico is letting Anderson control him for a moment.
Anderson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rico keeps working.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rico tries to escape but Anderson is in control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Rico prevents Anderson from improving position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Anderson misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

and Anderson decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Rico's guard.
Anderson trying to control the position from guard on top but Rico is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Rico not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Anderson stands and throws Rico's legs to the side, diving into side control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Alex Anderson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Anderson winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
