Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Richard Castillo (ranked 2538 p4p, 3644 weight class) and Tater Salad (ranked 195 p4p, 247 weight class). Salad is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Brak - Mashed potatoes. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Richard Castillo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tater Salad!
The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Castillo checks the leg kick nicely there.
Salad connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Salad lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

Salad takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Salad looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Castillo has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Castillo tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Castillo has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Salad is trying to escape the position but Castillo is controlling the position.
Castillo tries to score with some ground and pound. Salad controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Castillo is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Salad is surviving well by controlling Castillo's body position as best he can.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Salad holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Castillo tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Castillo throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Salad must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Castillo is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Castillo wants to take a breather but Salad is having none of it.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Castillo connects with a nice short shot to Salad's temple.

Salad seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Castillo drops back looking for a leg! Salad is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Salad manages to kick Castillo off! Castillo jumps back into Salad's guard.
Castillo is fighting to break Salad's control of his arms but Salad is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Salad is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Salad is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Castillo.

Castillo closes the distance and pushes Salad back into the cage.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Castillo tries to score a power double leg takedown but Salad sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Castillo somewhat.
Tater Salad has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Castillo connects with a body shot that sends Salad's belly button to the back.
Salad stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Castillo steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Salad.
Salad moves out of range of the strikes.
Salad throws a big counter head kick but Castillo avoids it with no problem.
Tater Salad seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Castillo shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Salad eats them both and turns towards Castillo to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Salad keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Salad swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Salad fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Castillo checks it well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Salad drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Salad throws a hook but Castillo blocks it.

Castillo appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.

Salad is rocked!
Castillo is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Salad can do to turn this around?
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Castillo closes the distance and lands a brutal uppercut that knocks Salad out! We're looking at the replay now - he was out before he hit the floor!
