Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious? Vega shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Ngannou counters by clinching up. Vega is looking for a takedown. Ngannou gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Vega regains guard.
Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Ngannou (2) vs (0) Vega Ngannou trying to control but Vega is working from the bottom. Vega is looking for a triangle here but Ngannou uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Score +3 for passing guard: Ngannou (5) vs (0) Vega Vega tries to improve position but can't. Vega is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Ngannou is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Vega has escaped the position, nice work there. Ngannou wants to lay and pray for a moment but Vega keeps working. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Vega is trying to improve his position. Ngannou thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
That's one minute gone in the round. Vega prevents Ngannou from moving into mount. Ngannou works to advance to full mount. Vega defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs. Ngannou has the hooks in and he's looking for a rear naked choke here. Vega is defending well but eventually Ngannou manages to get an arm under the chin and he's locked on the RNC! Vega has no choice but to tap now! He does! This one is all over!
