PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Yawa Kiang (ranked 23953 p4p, 23891 weight class) and Way Nada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 34 - 60 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Yawa Kiang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 46 - 48 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Way Nada!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, George Francis and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Nada throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kiang's waist but Kiang gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Nada off to one side.
Kiang displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Nada.
Kiang quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Nada drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Who's going to make the next move?

Kiang is trying to control Nada's posture but Nada avoids it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nada controls the position from side control.
Kiang holding on.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Nada wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kiang keeps working.
Kiang wants to control but Nada postures up.
Kiang is not content to let Nada control the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Nice sprawl there from Kiang as Nada shoots in.
And Kiang counters with a quick kick to the body but Nada blocks it.
Yawa Kiang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Way Nada.

Nada feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Kiang can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Nada controls the pace.

Kiang has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Way Nada dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Nada misses with a takedown attempt
and Kiang finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Kiang looks for a takedown but Nada sprawls well.

Kiang gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Nada to score an easy takedown into full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Nada wants to pass the guard but Kiang is keeping the position.
Nada slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Nada looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Nada tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Kiang defends well and Nada ends up having to push Kiang into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Yawa Kiang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Way Nada.
Kiang goes for a double leg but Nada avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Nada continues to drive forward.
Nada is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Kiang has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Nada is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Nada turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Nada manages to end up in side control.
Kiang is looking for a sweep.
The referee asks Nada politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Nada prefers to stall for the moment though.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Nada.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Nada replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Kiang blocks it well.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Nada.
Nada closes the distance and clinches up with Kiang, looking for a takedown. Nada pushes Kiang against the cage but Kiang circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Kiang jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.
Yawa Kiang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Way Nada.

Nada with the counter takedown but Kiang avoids it easily.

Kiang is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Yawa Kiang has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Way Nada is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Nada is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
