Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Marley Cannon (ranked 4149 p4p, 4147 weight class) and Phillip Mayo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Marley Cannon! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Phillip Mayo! The judges for this bout are William Gold, Colin Fotheringham and Phil Schofield.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cannon is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Mayo. Mayo is looking to clinch. No luck with that takedown attempt from Cannon. Cannon tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Mayo swivels and escapes. Cannon pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Mayo misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

That's going to take a lot out of him. Cannon leaves Mayo with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mayo closes the distance and clinches up with Cannon, looking for a takedown. Mayo pushes Cannon against the cage but Cannon circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. And Cannon counters with a quick kick to the body but Mayo blocks it. Cannon has his takedown stuffed and Mayo counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Mayo. Mayo can't get the takedown.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cannon is trying to pull guard but Mayo has him pressed against the cage. Cannon will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Mayo up against the cage. Cannon drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Mayo gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Mayo has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Cannon is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Cannon's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Mayo fails with an attempt to clinch.
Cannon instigates a clinch. Cannon tries to pull guard but Mayo holds him up against the cage and eventually Cannon drops back down to his feet.

Cannon misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. The fight stays on the outside here - Cannon looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Cannon throws a low kick but Mayo moves out of range easily. Cannon shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Mayo counters with a head kick. That will keep Cannon thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks! Mayo gets a double leg takedown into Cannon's guard. Cannon has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Mayo off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cannon shoots in for a takedown but Mayo shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Cannon stuffs the takedown attempt from Mayo. Mayo gets slowly back to his feet. Cannon is looking to clinch but Mayo is avoiding it.
Mayo moves in looking to clinch but Cannon pushes him off. Cannon tries to counter with a takedown but Mayo is quick to defend against it. Mayo tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Cannon paws at him with a jab and circles away. Mayo shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Cannon as he avoids it easily. Cannon seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter. Cannon fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Nice takedown defense from Cannon. No joy for Mayo on that attempt. Mayo throws a lazy right hand but Cannon sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Cannon is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Mayo. Cannon fails with an attempt to clinch.
And Mayo tries to counter it with a takedown but Cannon pushes his down on his head and steps out.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mayo changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Cannon looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Mayo taking a breather here. Mayo working the ground and pound from side control. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Cannon tries to escape but Mayo is in control. Cannon is trying to control Mayo's posture but Mayo avoids it. Cannon tries to improve position but can't. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Phillip Mayo will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Cannon dodges the punch combination from Mayo.
Cannon went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected. Mayo is looking to clinch but Cannon is avoiding it.
Nice sprawl there from Mayo as Cannon shoots in. Mayo leaves Cannon with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Mayo moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. Mayo misses with a few strikes there.

That's one minute gone in the round. Mayo stuffs the takedown attempt from Cannon. Cannon gets slowly back to his feet. Cannon fails to land the takedown. Cannon goes for a double leg but Mayo avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Mayo continues to drive forward. Mayo drops down looking for an ankle pick but Cannon pulls his leg out and moves away.
Mayo will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. A momentary lapse in concentration from Cannon enables Mayo to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Cannon manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Cannon is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Mayo defends well. Cannon can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Mayo controls the pace.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mayo is standing up over Cannon. Cannon looks to escape but Mayo dives into side control.
Cannon tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Mayo presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount! Cannon tries to hold on but Mayo pushes him away. Mayo lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Cannon knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mayo on the ground. Mayo takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Cannon tries to hold on but Mayo postures up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mayo with shots to the head and body - Cannon looks very uncomfortable down there. Mayo working Cannon over with strikes here. Mayo looking to isolate an arm here. Cannon doesn't see it coming and as Mayo extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Mayo!
