PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between George McLaughlin (ranked 3488 p4p, 23753 weight class) and Stella Fella (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Stella Fella was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, George McLaughlin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Stella Fella!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Ian Loll and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fella circles away from the clinch attempt.

McLaughlin moves into range and clinches up with Fella.
McLaughlin is trying to pull guard but Fella has him pressed against the cage.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Fella has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Let's hope that Fella has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
McLaughlin wants to control but Fella is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Fella seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Fella.

Fella gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Fella slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Fella is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Fella is pushing down on McLaughlin's leg trying to pass to half guard. McLaughlin is fighting to maintain full guard but Fella has managed to sneak the leg through.

Fella wants to free his trapped foot but McLaughlin is holding on for dear life with his legs.

McLaughlin is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Fella is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Fella is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. McLaughlin doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Fella.

McLaughlin rushes Fella and presses him up against the cage.
Fella stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
McLaughlin jumps guard but Fella stands there with McLaughlin around his waist. McLaughlin gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Fella will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Stella Fella showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

and Fella counters with a nice uppercut.
McLaughlin moves in looking to clinch but Fella pushes him off.

A body shot lands from Fella.

The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
McLaughlin jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Fella walks away with a smile on his face. McLaughlin gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Fella lands a jab-cross combination.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Fella lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
McLaughlin tries to clinch up but Fella circles away and keeps his distance.
McLaughlin tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and McLaughlin takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Stella Fella seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Fella scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Fella moves into full mount!
McLaughlin is desperately trying to improve his position but Fella has a good base and remains in mount.
Fella tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Fella working some short elbows here. He postures up to throw some more ground and pound but McLaughlin slips a leg through to get back to half guard. Nice work.

McLaughlin tries to lock up and control but Fella gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
McLaughlin is wriggling around trying to escape.
McLaughlin is controlling an arm, preventing Fella from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.

Fella looking for a guillotine from mount but McLaughlin is having none of it.
Fella content just to control the position here.

Stella Fella comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Fella has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
