PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dawindi Buktot (ranked 23974 p4p, 23868 weight class) and Wala Sapi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 36 - 55 - 5, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dawindi Buktot!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 43 - 46 - 8, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wala Sapi!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Stewart Dunkirk and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Buktot fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Sapi avoids it really well and circles away.
Sapi fakes the leg kick and cracks Buktot in the body.

That's one minute gone in the round.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sapi scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Buktot is trying to control Sapi's posture but Sapi avoids it.
Buktot is looking to regain half guard here but Sapi keeps moving and retains side control.

Sapi throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Sapi in side control, just content to control the action for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Buktot goes for a double leg but Sapi avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Sapi continues to drive forward.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sapi tries for a takedown but Buktot manages to get underhooks.
Buktot prevents a takedown attempt there.

Buktot decides to pull guard.
Sapi's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Sapi prevents Buktot from getting back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Sapi looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Wala Sapi dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Sapi stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Sapi wants it to stay on the feet.

Buktot gets caught flat footed, as Sapi shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Sapi not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Sapi has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sapi postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Buktot looking to control.
Sapi seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Buktot is trying to keep Sapi in close.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Buktot.
Sapi is trying to counter with his kicks.
Nice sprawl there from Sapi as Buktot shoots in.
Sapi is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Buktot with a body shot.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dawindi Buktot. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Buktot fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Sapi avoids it really well and circles away.
Sapi let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.

Buktot misses with a takedown attempt - Sapi sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Sapi follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.

Sapi closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Sapi lands in his opponent's guard.

Sapi seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Wala Sapi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Sapi thinks about the counter body kick.
Sapi wants to land a leg kick but Buktot is out of range.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Buktot can't do much from the bottom here.

Sapi working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Wala Sapi has got the better of the ground game so far.

Buktot struggling a bit here.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Sapi working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.

Sapi looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Buktot is trying to control Sapi's posture but Sapi avoids it.
Buktot parries the strikes from Sapi easily there. Sapi is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Buktot to escape.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Buktot trying to remain calm as Sapi controls from the top position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Buktot shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Sapi shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Buktot as he avoids it easily.
Buktot tries to score a power double leg takedown but Sapi sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Buktot somewhat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dawindi Buktot. That's going to take a lot out of him.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Sapi closes the distance and clinches up with Buktot, looking for a takedown. Sapi pushes Buktot against the cage but Buktot circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Buktot half committed to a counter leg kick.
Sapi throws a lazy body kick
and Buktot finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Dawindi Buktot has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Wala Sapi is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Buktot fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Sapi appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.

And that's the end of the fight!
Wala Sapi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Sapi winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
