PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Brendon Baker (ranked 4180 p4p, 4171 weight class) and Skyler Bowman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bowman has chosen Pop Smoke - Dior as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Brendon Baker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Skyler Bowman!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, James Glass and Donald Grub.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bowman tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Baker paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Bowman shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Baker's guard.
Bowman working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Baker is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Bowman advances position into side control!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bowman has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Skyler Bowman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Bowman has taken the fight to the clinch.
Baker can't break the clinch.
Baker really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Baker is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Baker wants to break the clinch but can't.
Bowman has Baker pressed against the cage, preventing Baker from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Bowman breaks the clinch.
Baker throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Bowman throws a counter combo.
Baker circles away from the clinch attempt.
An attempted straight right counter from Baker misses the target.

Bowman moves into the clinch.
Bowman is stalling here.
Bowman jumps guard but Baker stands there with Bowman around his waist. Bowman gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Baker gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Bowman.
Bowman fails to pull guard.
Brendon Baker has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Skyler Bowman.
Baker lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.

Bowman drags the fight down to the ground.

Bowman is looking to cinch up a triangle. Baker throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Bowman's body to avoid the submission. Bowman has instead reached around Baker's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Bowman arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Skyler Bowman!
In his post fight interview, Skyler Bowman started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
